Position Overview
We are seeking an Engineer III with a strong background in the environmental and solid waste industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for engineering and construction at solid waste disposal facilities, directing and mentoring junior staff, and maintaining clear communication with senior management. This role requires problem-solving, leadership, and project management skills to effectively guide multiple teams and projects within a growing, innovative industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering & Construction Leadership
- Oversee design and construction activities at solid waste disposal facilities.
- Directly manage on-site projects, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and support staff.
- Regulatory Compliance & Permitting
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of environmental regulations related to solid waste, air, stormwater, and wastewater.
- Oversee landfill design and permitting processes to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines.
- Collaborate with relevant agencies and stakeholders to secure necessary permits and approvals.
- Project Management
- Lead multiple technical and interdisciplinary projects simultaneously, from initial planning to completion.
- Develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules, tracking progress to ensure timely delivery and cost-effectiveness.
- Communicate regularly with senior management, providing status updates, addressing concerns, and making strategic recommendations.
- Collaboration & Team Leadership
- Coordinate cross-functional teams, including environmental, engineering, and other technical disciplines.
- Foster a positive team environment by setting clear expectations, providing feedback, and promoting professional development.
- Ensure alignment of project objectives with broader organizational goals.
- Travel & Site Visits
- Travel to remote locations for site evaluations, oversight, and inspections as needed.
- Conduct on-site assessments to identify improvements, troubleshoot issues, and support operations.
Qualifications
- Education
- Bachelor’s Degree (accredited) in Engineering (Civil, Chemical, or Environmental preferred).
- Experience & Certifications
- Prior landfill engineering experience.
- Construction experience, particularly in solid waste or a related environmental field.
- Demonstrated understanding of environmental regulations, permitting, and compliance.
- Strong project management experience with proven success leading multiple projects.

- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Outstanding communication abilities for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Leadership and mentorship skills with the ability to inspire and guide junior staff.
