Position Overview:
The Senior Property Risk Engineer will provide specialized field risk engineering services, working in a consultative capacity to support underwriting efforts and improve client risk profiles. This includes evaluating property risks, offering mitigation strategies, and guiding clients toward best practices. Operating from a home-based office in the Virginia area, you will travel approximately 50% of the time, with some overnight stays expected. A company car is provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct on-site property risk evaluations to meet underwriting requirements and guide pricing decisions.
- Develop and implement customized customer service strategies designed to reduce loss potential and improve overall risk management.
- Collaborate directly with underwriters, brokers, and clients, participating in client/broker meetings to address risk engineering needs.
- Perform comprehensive field engineering services at larger, more complex client locations.
- Deliver advanced property consultative services, including identifying exposures with high loss potential and recommending effective property management programs.
- Support marketing efforts by presenting Zurich’s risk transfer insurance products to clients and working closely with underwriting professionals and agents.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and 6 years of experience in Risk Engineering; OR
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 8 years of experience in Risk Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Fire Science, or a related field.
- Hands-on Property Risk Engineering field work experience, especially in Highly Protected Risk (HPR) environments.
- Prior experience in loss control or risk engineering within the insurance industry.
- Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) certification.
- Proficiency in PC operations and MS Office suite.
- Strong communication, consultative, and collaborative skills.
- Proven success in team-oriented environments.
