Job Overview
We are seeking a Technical Accounting Senior Manager to provide advanced accounting expertise and guidance in key areas such as contracts, revenue recognition, leases, derivatives, VIE assessments, impairment analyses, acquisitions, divestitures, and the application of new and existing accounting standards. A substantial portion of this role will focus on lease accounting, thus in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in lease accounting is highly preferred.
You will work closely with both Technical Accounting and Corporate Accounting teams to complete technical accounting reviews, acting as a mentor and resource in the organization. The role requires a high level of collaboration with stakeholders across various departments, locations, and organizational levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Accounting Guidance:
- Research, interpret, and implement complex GAAP standards related to leases, revenue recognition, derivatives, acquisitions, and other technical areas.
- Draft comprehensive accounting memos, document conclusions, and effectively communicate recommendations to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
- Lease Accounting Expertise:
- Provide expert support and direction on lease accounting issues; guide the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP.
- Oversee the review and monitoring of leases to ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner with cross-functional teams to address technical accounting issues, develop processes, and ensure consistency in accounting practices across the organization.
- Support Corporate Accounting functions in special projects and initiatives.
- Mentorship & Team Development:
- Act as a mentor to junior team members, providing guidance on technical accounting research, analysis, and review processes.
- Assist in designing and delivering training programs or resources to improve team capabilities in technical accounting topics.
- Compliance & Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with changes in accounting regulations and best practices; proactively recommend process improvements.
- Assist with audits and compliance reviews, providing necessary documentation and explanations to internal and external auditors.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (strongly preferred).
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation preferred.
- Experience:
- 7 years of demonstrated experience in Technical Accounting, including writing detailed accounting memos.
- Strong background handling lease accounting and other complex accounting issues.
- Skills & Abilities:
- GAAP Expertise: In-depth knowledge of complex accounting topics; ability to research and apply new and existing standards.
- Communication: Proven ability to simplify and communicate complex accounting concepts across diverse teams (accounting and non-accounting).
- Collaboration: High level of self-motivation when working independently, as well as strong team-oriented mindset.
- Problem-Solving: Demonstrated track record of managing multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining quality and exceeding goals.
- Supervisory:
- No direct reports currently; however, this role requires collaborative leadership across various teams and levels within the organization.
- Travel:
- 1 – 4 domestic trips per year to company locations or conferences.
