Job Summary
The Lab Pack Project Manager for the Waste Division’s Northeast region is in a unique position to establish and grow a new line of service to VLS clients. The northeast currently transports and disposes hazardous waste, but on a relatively limited scale, and does not offer lab packing as a direct service. The Lab Pack Project Manager will work with the sales team to add lab packing as a direct service, as well as to increase the volume of brokered hazardous waste. Your unique knowledge and skillset will open doors to new business and expand the services we can offer to existing clients.

Job Summary

Responsibilities
- Establish, lead and grow a new business area for the Northeast region
- Be a valuable resource to the operations and sales teams for transportation and disposal of hazardous waste
- Ensure clients’ needs are the primary focus of each project
- Obtain a waste inventory and be able to quote packaging and disposal for a wide variety of projects (laboratories, schools, demolition sites, etc.)
- Build working relationships with hazardous waste disposal outlets to facilitate profile approval and waste delivery
- Manage logistics, including setting pick-up and delivery times while complying with the DOT’s 10-day rule Communicate with clients on pricing and shipment details and ship waste according to DOT requirements.
- Sample and profile new waste streams and register on waste company portals to be able to profile waste streams and get them approved online
- Understand and learn how hazardous waste outlets off spec and surcharge certain waste streams
- Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals for disposal to maximize efficiency, maintain compliance, and safety.
- Assign proper waste codes to all materials that are designated for disposal
- Prepare inventory sheets, labels, manifests, and land disposal restriction notifications
- Field test unknown chemicals when they are encountered
- HS Diploma or GED equivalency
- 2 plus years of lab packing experience
- 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certificate required
- Class A/B Commercial Driver's License (with Tanker and Haz Endorsements) preferred
- Due to this position's interstate travel in a commercial vehicle and federal regulations, candidates must be 21 years or older
- Knowledgeable on Federal/State EPA requirements for hazardous waste disposal.
- Be able to improvise and adapt to change in project scope
- Able to identify peroxide forming materials and be aware of the dangers of expired ethers, self-heating organic peroxides, etc.
- Ability to create and administer clear paperwork, labels, record keeping
- Ability to work safely around acutely hazardous waste
- Flexible schedule being able to work 50 hours/week, if needed with Occasional weekend and evening overtime hours
- Excellent communication and organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated excellent work ethic and obtaining solutions-oriented results
- Mechanical expertise or aptitude preferred
- Ability to wear full-face respirator
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision oversight in handling unanticipated events and needs
- Ability to lift up to 75lbs
