What are the responsibilities and job description for the WIC Public Health Assistant - Bilingual Spanish position at VNA Health Care?
- Maintains an effective working relationship with clinic staff and establishes a positive rapport with WIC participants.
- Greets participants and assesses reason for appointment and/or need to reschedule.
- Maintains clinic schedule, schedules appointments and follow-up on missed/upcoming appointments.
- Pre-screens applicants to obtain basic demographic data, resolve any potential dual enrollment on the precertification screen, if applicable.
- Conducts participant intake interview verifying demographics, obtaining participant signature on appropriate consents and preparing participant record for services to be received.
- Maintains appropriate documentation in WIC EMR.
- Explains clinic procedures and participant rights and responsibilities.
- Gives participant specific forms to complete and/or educational materials to review for the services to be received.
- Prepares physical set-up of clinics; cleans up after clinic, and restocks/organizes medical supplies as indicated.
- Completes participant's length/height and weight per IDPH Nutrition Assessment Manual.
- Completes and records participant's hemoglobin per applicable IDPH and VNA Health Care procedures.
- Directs participant or parent/guardian in completion of clinic forms as applicable.
- Notifies Nutritionist of problems or alterations in participant status.
- Answers, assesses and screens telephone calls.
- Translates for participants and staff as needed.
- Respects participant’s privacy and rights, and maintains participant confidentiality.
- Maintains office and printing supplies and prepares requisitions needed for supplies and storing when received.
- Ability to work all clinical hours as assigned.
- Understands and practices infection control procedures, per VNA Infection Control Manual policies and procedures.
- Familiarizes and complies with all VNA policies and procedures.
- Meets standards of behavior expectations.
- Follows established guidelines for use and/or disclosure of protected health information. Employees should report any breaches of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules to the Privacy Officer immediately. Failure to comply with HIPAA policies and procedures will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Compensation: Hourly Range $18.00 to $18.63, depending on experience.
Incentives: Earn up to $500.00 quarterly based upon meeting productivity goals.

- High school diploma or equivalent, some office technology courses desirable.
- Minimum of one-year customer service experience preferred.
- Effective communication skills, including neat and legible hand writing/printing.
- Bi-lingual in Spanish/English as follows: Reading - Required. Written – Preferred. Speaking – Required. This position requires phone calls to Spanish speaking participants, distribution of Spanish language materials to participants, etc. Will serve as receptionist for WIC on rotating basis.. May be required to translate materials and messages from one language to another. Will be required to interpret nutrition assessment and counseling sessions and nutrition education groups.
