Job Summary:
The Certified Home Health Aide is a paraprofessional member of our hospice team who works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and performs various services for patients as necessary to meet their personal needs, promote their comfort, and ensure a safe environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Addressing patients' daily needs by responding promptly to their personal and physical needs, and reporting any concerns to the primary care nurse.
• Meeting safety needs of patients and using equipment safely and properly.
• Providing personal care, including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linen as often as necessary.
• Assisting with dressing and undressing patients, planning and preparing nutritious meals, and assisting with feeding patients if necessary.
• Offering and assisting with bedpans and urinals, keeping patients' living areas clean and orderly, and performing post-mortem care as instructed.
• Taking and recording oral, rectal, and auxiliary temperatures, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure when ordered, and reporting on patients' conditions and significant changes to the assigned supervisory nurse.
• Assisting with ambulation and range of motion exercises as instructed by the primary care nurse, and utilizing proper ergonomics and body mechanic techniques.
Qualifications:
• Current and active California Home Health Aide Certification.
• Current CPR certification.
• Licensed driver with insured automobile, in accordance with state and/or organization requirements.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.
• Self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision, and empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail, and impaired.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to push/pull 200 lbs.
• Ability to transfer 170 pounds, stoop, bend, and squat, walk up one flight of stairs, and walk one mile.
• Visual and audio acuity.
