We are currently seeking a Veteran Employment Consultant to join our team in the Oklahoma City, OK area! Volunteers of America is one of the nation’s largest comprehensive human services organizations with 16,000 mission-driven professionals, dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential.
Our Veterans Employment Services team partners with veterans to obtain long-term and meaningful employment and is tailored to meet the unique needs of veterans who are unemployed or under employed. The program assists veterans to apply skills and traits attained in military service to new civilian employment opportunities.
What You Will Do
As the Veterans Employment Consultant, you will deliver intensive, individualized employment and supportive services to homeless veterans through empowerment, client centered techniques, and employment assistance in order to return to self-sufficiency. The Veterans Employment Consultant delivers employment navigation and client-centered techniques to reintegrate homeless veterans into meaningful employment within the labor force and connect the veteran to effective service delivery agencies that will address the complex problems facing homeless veterans.

Qualifications
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist Veterans Business Liaison in partnering with local employers in identifying employment opportunities for veterans and advocate for veteran preference to be incorporated into their hiring practices.
- Research and refer opportunities within institutions in the community that are suitable to the goals and work certification needs of clients in order to expand employment opportunities.
- Identify and refer institutions/agencies in the community that are suitable to the client’s IEP goals.
- Conduct weekly outreach with community partners, veteran service organizations, employers, and educational institutions to find, assess, and enroll veterans into the program.
- Conduct client assessments, determine job readiness, and identify employment-related strengths and barriers.
- Attend outreach and Veteran-Centered seminars, workshops, and outside programs.
- Travel up to 30% within a 7-county area.
What You Will Bring:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in social services or related field, Behavioral Health Case Management experience is preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services related field or equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by the Director of Veterans services and the Director of Human Resources.
- Ability to self-motivate, work with diverse populations and establish collaborative relationships with community and organizational stakeholders.
- Must be able to work with individuals in crises and possess a thorough understanding of best practices in serving veterans in need.
- Military veteran experienced in working with people with addiction and/or mental health disorders preferred.
- Have reliable transportation, a valid Driver’s License & proof of current liability automobile insurance (your name must be on the policy).
