Summary
The SCADA Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems used to monitor and control manufacturing processes and utilities. This role serves as a bridge between operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT), ensuring high availability, performance, and security of SCADA platforms.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Design, program, and configure SCADA systems (e.g., Ignition, Wonderware, GE iFIX, FactoryTalk View) for real-time monitoring and control of industrial equipment and processes.
- Integrate PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Modicon, etc.) and RTUs with SCADA via OPC, MQTT, Modbus, or other industrial protocols.
- Develop and maintain HMI screens, dashboards, and alarm systems for plant floor visibility and operator usability.
- Manage historian systems (e.g., OSIsoft PI, Canary Labs, InfluxDB) to store and analyze process data.
- Troubleshoot and resolve SCADA and PLC-related issues in real time to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with Controls Engineers, Process Engineers, and IT to align SCADA with manufacturing and business objectives.
- Implement cybersecurity best practices in SCADA networks including segmentation, patching, and account control.
- Maintain documentation including network diagrams, I/O lists, tag databases, and standard operating procedures.
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond to SCADA/automation-related emergencies.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Automation, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 3 years of experience in SCADA/Automation engineering within manufacturing, utilities, food & beverage, oil & gas, or similar industry.
- Proficient in developing and configuring SCADA/HMI software platforms.
- Strong knowledge of PLC programming and industrial communication protocols.
- Experience with SQL databases and scripting languages (Python, VBScript, etc.).
- Familiar with IT/OT convergence concepts, network infrastructure (switches, firewalls), and cybersecurity principles.
- Able to interpret P&IDs, wiring schematics, and control logic.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications: Ignition Gold/Silver Certification, Wonderware Certified Developer, Rockwell Automation credentials, etc.
- Experience with cloud SCADA integration, MQTT Sparkplug B, or edge computing platforms.
- Knowledge of MES systems and their integration with SCADA.
- Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git) for automation projects.
