SWAN - Legal Training Specialist
The SWAN Legal Services Initiative (LSI) is program that was created to address barriers within the legal process that delay permanency for a child in the child welfare system.
The Legal Training Specialist (LTS) is responsible for providing written research and consultation to legally focused components of the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network, including Legal Services Initiative (LSI) Warmline inquiries and SWAN staff. This position prepares and presents legal materials and trainings in collaboration with other department managers to SWAN staff and other organizations and initiatives who provide child welfare training in Pennsylvania.
Schedule: Full Time, Exempt position works a minimum of 8 hours between 8 AM – 5 PM. This includes a 30-minute paid lunch.
What You Will Contribute
- Delivers legal orientation training and transfer of learning to new LSI paralegals.
- Responds to LSI Warmline inquiries and prepares written materials to support Warmline responses.
- Collaborates with LSI Division Managers and LSI Coordinators to design and provide training/consultation at regional meetings or in counties.
- Provides ongoing legal consultation to LSI staff.
- Develops and provides legal training at quarterly/statewide meetings and annual permanency conference.
- Prepares written materials to support Diakon/Voce staff’s understanding of legislation and other legal issues.
- Collaborates with Diakon/Voce staff to design and provide multi-disciplinary training.
- Other duties as assigned.
What It Will Take To Succeed
- Juris Doctorate degree and active Pennsylvania Attorney's License in good standing (not currently subject to any form of Disciplinary Action or Probation) is required.
- 3 years of experience as an attorney within child welfare law or equivalent is required.
- Training experience is preferred.
- This position requires travel to and from the Voce home office and throughout the state as needed.
- A valid driver's license.
