Shift Safety Specialist

voestalpine Texas LLC constructs and operates voestalpine's direct reduction plant in San Patrico County/Texas. The natural gas based direct reduction plant, with its state-of-the-art technology, will provide the Austrian steel production sites in Linz and Donawitz with access to cost-effective and environmentally-friendly HBI, thus ensuring their competitiveness in the long term. Furthermore, a part of the production will be sold to partners interested in long-term contracts.

Assists in providing leadership in the implementation of the company’s efforts to plan, implement and supervise the onsite corporate safety, security and emergency response program, which shall also include all firefighting activities and ensure compliance with the company philosophy and the latest regulations. To create a new benchmark by exceptional leadership in safety, security and emergency response that protects employees, neighboring communities and assets. The SSE Coordinator’s tasks & responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Task and Responsibilities:

• Assists in the development and implementation of SSE management systems, including work processes, safety plans, and standards & procedures
• Coaches teams and individuals on SSE related tasks and activities
• Participates in Root Cause Investigations (RCIs) to achieve plant Health & Safety goals, eliminate injuries, and reduce exposures
• Evaluates Behavioral Based data and coaches team to habit strength by assisting in the managing and auditing of the Safe Behavior Process including analysis of the Behavior Based Performance processes
• Participates in and provides data for SSE audits/assessments
• Assists in maintaining SSE recordkeeping systems, Health Assessment Planning Tool & Qualitative Exposure Assessment databases
• Assists in maintaining Industrial Hygiene (IH) programs and conducts necessary monitoring per IH Plans
• Participates in creating and delivery of SSE Training
• Assists in organizing and overseeing the Site & Facility Security Plan
• Assesses process and non-process related risks (including natural disasters)
• Makes recommendations in developing and implementing the facility-wide emergency management plan
• Assesses emergency response equipment needs and organizes emergency response teams based on risk assessments
• Assists in developing, implementing, & training the emergency response team
• Initiates emergency plans and provides leadership in response to on-site emergencies

• OSHA Authorized General Industry Trainer Preferred or Completed OSHA 510/511
• ASP/CSP Preferred
• Must be able to assume role of Incident Commander at an emergency incident
• Must complete firefighter training up to the level of Fire Brigade Leader
• Must be able to walk long distances and stand and work for more than 2 hours in tough environmental conditions (high temperature, high humidity, noise, & dust), and withstand heights of up to 500 feet
• Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel & Power Point)
• Must have the ability to effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing
• Must be able to travel occasionally
• Must be able to enter into dangerous environment to execute lifesaving rescue and combat fire or hazardous situation, having been provided proper equipment and training
• Must have experience with designing, implementing, & maintaining Site Safety & Security plans
