What are the responsibilities and job description for the Spay-Neuter Veterinarian position at Voices of Change Animal League (VOCAL)?
VOCAL (Voices of Change Animal League) is actively seeking a Spay-Neuter Veterinarian to join our 501c3 animal welfare non-profit and work in our Community Clinic & Resource Center. We are dedicated to serving animals in our local community through our innovative and compassionate programs designed to help keep pets in their homes and aid in minimizing the homeless pet population. We custom built our clinic in 2019 from donor funding and purchased brand new, state of the art equipment. Our mission is to solve the homeless pet problem through prevention, community outreach, adoption and collaboration.
The ideal candidate for this position will be an experienced high volume spay neuter vet who loves surgery and is passionate about providing sterilization surgery for cats and dogs to reduce the overpopulation of homeless animals. VOCAL's clinic environment is fast-paced, upbeat, flexible and progressive.
Core Responsibilities:
- Perform 20-30 spay and neuter surgeries per day
- Perform pre and post-operative examinations on all patients
- Provide vaccinations as needed
- Perform post-operative rechecks and prescribe treatments as needed
- Remain current on safe and efficacious medical protocol regarding anesthesia and surgery through continuing education
Basic Requirements:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree
- Veterinary license in good standing in the state of FL
- Ability to work on a team that is focused on community medicine and derives practices from shelter medicine/animal welfare philosophies.
- Maintain a professional, upbeat and friendly attitude while working with the clinic team and interfacing with public clientele.
- Our clinic is a small, but mighty team, so excellent work attendance is pertinent.
- Ability to maintain an open mind regarding changes and be willing to learn, implement, and teach new protocols
- Must possess the ability to work in a shelter medicine based, fast-paced clinic environment
- Excellent animal handling skills, including the ability to lift and move domestic animals in stressful conditions, up to 25 lbs with assistance
- Ability to communicate effectively with fellow team members and the referring veterinary community
