We are excited to announce our physical expansion into the Chicago Region, which is made possible through our growing partnership with FlixBus and implementation of charter services.

What began as a single contracted route from Minneapolis to Chicago has now evolved into an exciting new chapter. By mid-June, we will be servicing a total of 14 routes for FLIX and further expanding charter operations.

Summary

As a Diesel Mechanic at Voigt's Bus Service, you will be instrumental in maintaining our fleet of equipment, primarily motorcoaches. You’ll ensure the safest equipment is placed in service, and they are free of mechanical defects with all installed equipment in working order.

Essential Functions

  • Handles driver’s vehicle write-up requests daily. (DVIR’s)
  • Maintains and monitors preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Records all time and parts on work orders correctly, proficiently to ensure correct costs and explanations of repairs are being applied to vehicles and company assets/property.
  • Performs routine maintenance such as oil changes, mounts, dismounts and balances tires, tests batteries, and lubricates equipment and machinery.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel end components to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
  • Test drives vehicles to verify driver complaints, assist in diagnosing malfunctions, and to ensure that all systems are working properly through correct repair procedures.
  • Troubleshoots/diagnoses equipment problems over the phone with drivers and other personnel.
  • Inspects, tests, and listens to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as gauges, digital voltmeters, laptops, manuals, manufacturer support systems, training exercises, other forms of diagnosis to include- manufacturer support call centers, representatives, online training as well as manuals.
  • Specialize in repairing and maintaining parts of the engine, Wheel Chair Lifts, HVAC systems, engine cooling, suspension, electrical, and all other components.
  • Ensures compliance with DOT, EPA and OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Complies with company scheduled hours.
  • Works in excess of normal working hours as varying workloads are encountered.
  • Washes, cleans outside, cleans inside, and dumps lavatory when needed.
  • Handles road calls, repairs vehicles on route at times, changes tires as needed on equipment while in route of service.
  • Calls for towing and tire repair companies or outside repair shops as needed.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

Knowledge of:

  • Fleet maintenance policies and procedures
  • Basic computer function capabilities
  • Basic electrical and some knowledge of electrical multiplex systems

Skills & Ability:

  • Understanding and repair of HVAC systems
  • Organize self and surroundings
  • Work efficiently and effectively under time and budgetary pressures
  • Write and speak English
  • Communicate openly and honestly with drivers, other managers and location staff
  • Make repair decisions in a fast-paced environment based upon what would be in the best interest of the company
  • Work independently and be self-motivated
  • Work different shifts if necessary
  • Solve problems and maintenance issues
  • Must be a team player and willing to accept and support company processes and systems
  • Maintain a minimum of 85% shop efficiency rate
  • Learn, understand and use company IT systems such as a vehicle maintenance system, coach dispatch system, and others
  • Complete training requirements set forth by manager

Shift Time:

  • Technician 2: 12:00pm-9:00pm
  • Tuesday thru Saturday (Sunday Monday off)

Requirements Before Hire:

  • Valid CDL A or B with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsements (or No Airbrake Restrictions).
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate’s degree (two year college or technical school) preferred
  • Brake and AC Certifications preferred
  • 3-5 years fleet maintenance experience

Upon Hire:

  • Must have a passable driving record according to federal guidelines.
  • Ability to pass medical examination for a DOT Health Card.
  • Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Physical Assessment aligning with the Physical Activities listed below. (A back screening is included, evaluating the repetitive lifting, pushing and pulling of 80 lbs.)
  • Passable Pre-Employment drug test, along with random testing according to federal guidelines
  • Paid training will be provided (including up to 14 days in MN)
  • Will have or required to attain within 60 days, 608 and 609 certifications for HVAC work.

Please note that state and federal regulations along with company policies may disqualify individuals based on specific criteria, including criminal offenses, driving violations, or failure to meet health standards.

Pay: $32.00 - $39.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
