What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Quality & Product Reliability Manager (On-Site) position at Voltage LLC?
The Quality Manager leads the post-production quality team at Voltage LLC, ensuring that all claims resolution, new product development feedback, time studies, installation evaluations, and root cause analysis (RCA) efforts maintain the highest standards of reliability and performance. This role is responsible for driving continuous improvement in product performance, supporting field operations, and ensuring customer feedback is integrated into product design and quality processes.
The Quality Engineers, Field Technicians, and Project Engineer report to the Quality Manager, forming a team that identifies and resolves field issues, installation inefficiencies, and product failures while maintaining compliance with industry standards, including NETA, NEC, UL, and IEEE.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Oversight
- Supervise and mentor the Quality Engineers, Field Technicians, and Project Engineer, ensuring they effectively execute their responsibilities.
- Oversee claims investigations, time studies, installation evaluations, and RCA efforts.
- Develop training programs to improve technical expertise, problem-solving, and field troubleshooting skills.
- Ensure seamless collaboration between quality, engineering, field teams, and customers.
Claims Investigation & Resolution
- Lead investigations into customer claims and warranty issues, working with clients and field teams to collect data and determine root causes.
- Oversee the team’s execution of 8D reports, ensuring proper corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) are implemented.
- Work with engineering, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to resolve recurring quality issues.
- Maintain a claims database, tracking trends and identifying areas for product or process improvement.
New Product Development & Field Testing
- Provide real-world performance feedback to engineering and R&D teams for new product development.
- Oversee field testing and validation of new designs, ensuring manufacturability and ease of installation.
- Develop quality criteria for new product releases, including durability, installability, and compliance with industry standards.
Time Studies & Install Evaluations
- Conduct and oversee time studies on field installations to identify efficiency improvements and reduce installation labor.
- Evaluate installation practices and challenges, providing recommendations for improved product design or field training.
- Collaborate with engineering, sales, and customer success teams to ensure customer feedback is integrated into product updates.
Root Cause Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Lead root cause analysis (RCA) investigations using 8D, 5 Whys, FMEA, and statistical tools to eliminate recurring failures.
- Work with installation crews, quality engineers, and suppliers to ensure corrective actions are effective.
- Recommend design, process, or material changes based on field data and post-production feedback.
Field Support & Compliance
- Assist in on-site troubleshooting and field audits to verify compliance with installation standards.
- Work with claims and field teams to develop training materials and installation guides based on common issues.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, UL, IEEE, and NETA standards where applicable.
- Coordinate with third-party testing partners as needed to ensure adherence to NETA acceptance testing standards for electrical equipment.
Education/Experience/Skills Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5 years of experience in post-production quality management, claims handling, or field engineering, preferably in solar, electrical, or industrial sectors.
- Proven leadership experience managing quality engineers, field technicians, and technical teams.
- Strong experience with root cause analysis (RCA), 8D reports, FMEA, and corrective action implementation.
- Knowledge of PV, MV, and EBOS systems and installation methods.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, Six Sigma, and statistical process control (SPC) is a plus.
- Understanding of NETA standards and their role in electrical system validation.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to travel for field investigations and customer support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications in ASQ CQE, Six Sigma, or Lean Manufacturing.
- Experience conducting time studies and efficiency evaluations.
- Background in supplier quality management and field audits.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office environment with occasional traveling to customer sites and events (traveling up to 25%). Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
