The Satellite and Telecom Field Technician will be responsible for field operations including installations, repairs, decommissioning and integration of VSAT satellite equipment and installation/decom at central office sites. This role requires a highly motivated individual with a high set of personal values capable of working independent of direct supervision to support a variety of roles, communications systems and projects.
JOB TASKS AND DUTIES:
This position will require good understanding of working in the field on telecom and satellite equipment. Areas of services will include:
- Install, repair and decommission VSAT Satellite equipment – up to 1.8m antenna.
- Installation of telecom racks, cabling, and components in co-location facilities, central offices, and occasionally at field locations
- Support our customers in all their field upgrade needs.
- Support on-call duties when required.
- Completion of site visit reports, transfer documents and quality control reports.
- Operate a vehicle in a safe manner.
- Transportation of materials and equipment.
- Perform Audits of materials and equipment.
- Testing of used equipment for reuse.
- Identify potential process improvements and bring them to the attention of the Operations Manager.
- Accurate and timely progress reporting to management and customer.
- Strict adherence to safety standards, industry best-practices, and Volterra Systems policies.
- Tracking of hours worked and expenses.
- Shipping and receiving of equipment.
- Inventory control.

- Must be able to pass a mandatory full background check, and not have been convicted of a felony of any kind.
- Must be able to pass a mandatory drug test. We also do random drug testing during employment, including unannounced testing.

- Previous wireless/telecom/satellite industry experience preferred but not a must.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all types of weather throughout the year. This may include snowmobile or track vehicle operation.
- Ability to work within Maintenance Window hours (midnight to 6am) or daytime as scheduled based on project scope and adhere reliably to schedule.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Experience working around/with AC/DC power.
- Strong proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and a digital volt meter required.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to move/lift up 80lbs unassisted
- Able to spend long hours standing, walking, lifting, bending down and pulling
- Position will require climbing step ladders
Travel Requirements:
- This position will require travel estimated at 75% of the time, and occasionally travel length may exceed 2 weeks.
- Travel to/from your home will be paid for by the company, utilizing company credit card.
- Company Truck will be provided for travel. Snowmobile or track vehicle will be assigned for use in snow areas to access sites.
- Any travel requiring overnight lodging will be paid for by the company with the addition of per diem.
