Job Title - Surgical Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Surgical Assistant to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting surgical procedures within our facility, which includes a Level I Trauma Center and a PICU. The Surgical Assistant will work closely with surgeons and other medical personnel, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety are maintained throughout surgical operations.
Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons during various surgical procedures, ensuring all instruments and supplies are prepared and available.
- Maintain aseptic technique throughout the surgical process to prevent infection.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure efficient workflow in the operating room.
- Monitor patient vital signs and assist in basic life support as needed.
- Utilize medical terminology effectively to communicate with healthcare professionals.
- Document procedures accurately in electronic health record systems, such as Epic.
- Participate in the preparation and maintenance of the operating room environment.
- Support post-operative care by assisting with patient transfers and monitoring recovery.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a surgical setting, preferably within a Level II Trauma Center or Medical-surgical environment.
- Familiarity with acute care practices and protocols.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to surgical procedures.
- Experience with electronic health record systems, particularly Epic, is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of aseptic techniques and infection control measures.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
