The Director of Driver Development at Volume Transportation will lead with a focus on professionalism, logical problem-solving, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Drive strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing driver development and retention while ensuring the team adheres to Volume Transportation’s core values— Centered, Focused, Forward . The director will also manage the safety culture across the organization.

Oversee the design and implementation of training programs, using both classroom and hands-on methods. Conduct evaluations to ensure compliance with company policies and DOT, FMCSA regulations. Collaborate with Safety and Operations teams to ensure violations are addressed effectively.

This individual communicates persuasively and focuses on general concepts, yet can delve into specifics when necessary. They foster a positive, collaborative environment for driver coaching and mentoring.

Lead the driver mentor program, working closely with Operations and Fleet Managers to create supportive relationships. Develop strategies for driver retention and ensure regular follow-up with newly onboarded drivers.

Analyze performance metrics using tools like Motive, identifying opportunities for coaching and improvement. Provide detailed reports to senior leadership, focusing on both individual driver performance and broader safety trends.

This role requires a strong focus on accuracy and adherence to rules and processes. The director will ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and CSA regulations and will manage accident reviews, safety assessments, and proactive corrective action plans.

While adaptable, this individual prefers a structured environment with clear objectives and policies. They may hesitate when faced with unexpected situations and will seek guidance or input to ensure tasks are performed with the highest accuracy.

Oversee specialized training programs (e.g., tanker and hazmat operations) and continuously improve training methodologies using technology, such as simulators, to align with industry standards.
