As a key member of our leadership team, the Director of Development will be responsible for designing and implementing strategies to raise funds and establish sustainable revenue streams that align with the Volunteer Center’s mission. In partnership with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, this role will focus on expanding partnerships and advancing initiatives to drive revenue growth for our organization.

Key Responsibilities:
- Fund Development. This role will develop and manage relationships with donors, including identification, research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Fundraising Events. Assist with planning and executing fundraising events to support our mission.
- Grant Management. Oversee the full grant lifecycle, including researching opportunities, submission of proposals, tracking deadlines, and ensuring compliance with all grantor requirements for assigned projects.
- Community Engagements. Attend and speak at various community engagements as needed.
- Program Partnerships Development. Work with the Executive Director and Community Engagement Team to identify and cultivate business partnerships to support our programs. Assist with developing customized donor proposals and presentations. Follow up with partners to share the impact of their gifts.
Essential Duties:
- Create and execute a personal fundraising plan for prospects and donors and consistently track all activities.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to review strategies and progress.
- Proficiently use donor database, Little Green Light.
- Develop the targeted contact strategies for donor communications and partner with marketing on content development for seasonal fund development campaigns.
- Write customized proposals, presentations, and stewardship reports for major donors.
- Engage prospects and existing donors in meetings with an expectation of scheduling 15 meetings/month on average (in-person and/or via phone/video conference).
- Occasionally serve as spokesperson for our organization at networking events, donor check presentations, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience developing and maintaining a $300k portfolio with gifts of $5k from 50 individual donors, business partners, and foundations.
- Minimum of three years working in a nonprofit environment, with specific fund development experience
- Demonstrated success with personal solicitations, securing major gifts, and developing successful relationships with donors.
- Experience with planning and executing fundraising events.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to set priorities and work independently while also supporting the larger team.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
- Proficient in software applications such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, and within fundraising databases (e.g., Little Green Light a plus).
- Ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs and willingness to be open-minded to differing opinions and views.
- Valid WI driver’s license, good driving record, and ample automobile insurance minimums.
- Willing to undergo a background check.
Salary, Hours, Benefits:
- Range: $45k - $48k annual salary
- Hours: Full-time with the ability to set your own schedule that meets the needs of the role while understanding that occasional evenings and weekends for special events, speaking engagements, and donor interactions may be required. You’ll find support from the core team during normal office hours, M-F, 9:00 am-4:00 pm.
