DRIVER PERSONAL VEHICLE
VOLUNTEERS IN SERVICE TO THE ELDERLY
Position: Driver
Status: 30-40 hrs/week; non-exempt
Reports To: Transportation Manager
About VISTE:
The mission of VISTE is to enable frail elderly persons to live independently and safely in their own home.
Position Summary:
Drivers are responsible for transporting clients in a safe, courteous, timely, and professional manner. The specifics are determined by the varying needs of the clients, as assigned by the Transportation Office.
Position Eligibility:
- Access to a vehicle in good repair and must be safe, clean, organized, and accessible to clients.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Basic map reading skills or ability to safely use navigational phone applications.
- Knowledge of Polk County geographical area, roads, and locations.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to manage a schedule.
- Willingness to work beyond standard hours, as needed.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License and auto insurance.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality related to client and donor information.
- Capacity to work independently and the willingness to help outside scope of work when necessary.
- Ability to drive in all reasonable conditions (varied weather, non-daylight hours, etc).
- Physical ability to complete assigned tasks.
- Ability to lift up to forty (40) pounds.
- High school diploma or GED, and three or more years of customer service experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience to provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for success.

Position Duties:
In order to support VISTE in the mission of enabling frail elderly persons to live independently and safely in their own homes, the Driver will do the following.
- Customer Service:
- Put needs of client first.
- Display courteous and welcoming attitude towards clients.
- Assist clients with carrying personal items.
- Communicate with client to establish a friendly and reassuring environment.
- Communication Skills:
- Communicate effectively with clients of all types and demeanor.
- Communicate effectively with Transportation Office.
- Maintain open, friendly, and welcoming demeanor to clients.
- Communicate information about client needs to relevant VISTE departments.
- Organizational Skills:
- Submit all paperwork on time.
- Maintain daily timesheet and mileage log.
- Follow all rules and guidelines established by law and VISTE Policy.
- Operational effectiveness:
- Transport clients to their appointments as assigned by Transportation Office.
- Maintain vehicle to remain safe, clean, organized, and accessible to clients.
- Utilize knowledge of Polk County geographical locations, roads, and businesses.
- Drive vehicle in safe manner within legal guidelines at all times.
- Utilize basic map reading skills and/or safely use phone navigational applications.

Position Standards:
Success in this position is demonstrated when the following are consistently accomplished:
- Clients are transported to their appointments in a safe and timely manner.
- Information about client needs is communicated to relevant VISTE departments.
- Clients are able to remain safely in their homes.
Position Tasks:
- Pick up client appointment tickets (green sheets) from the Transportation Office 2 days in advance.
- Call clients 24 to 36 hours in advance of the appointment to confirm transportation needs (Please note: Might require driver to call client several times to confirm appointment).
- Pick up clients at the agreed upon time, at their door even if prior contact has not been established. Pick up time is typically 30 minutes prior to appointment time.
- Assist client into and out of the vehicle as necessary.
- Assist client with carrying personal items (groceries, walker, oxygen, etc.) based on the individual needs of the client.
- Return client to their home or final destination.
- Remain in contact with the Transportation Department in order to learn of and communicate about any changes or concerns.
- Use the most efficient manner of travel and mileage.
- Record and submit mileage and time sheet as required by Payroll Department.
- Submit daily paperwork as required by Transportation Manager.
- Submit biweekly payroll sheets as required to Transportation Manager.
- Follow all rules and guidelines established by law, VISTE policy, and the Transportation Manager.
- When necessary, share any safety, health, repair, or personal needs of clients by use of an incident report submitted to Transportation Manager.
- Maintain vehicle used for client transportation. Vehicle must remain safe, clean, organized, and accessible to clients.
- Submit copy of Driver’s License, Car Registration, and Auto Insurance on an annual basis or as required by expiration dates.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20,000.00 - $30,000.00 per year
