What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Specialist - Supportive Housing position at Volunteers of America Delaware Valley?
Responsibilities include assisting clients in obtaining appropriate sources of income resources, community contacts and referrals. Responsible for seeking housing resources and forming reputable relationships with housing providers to secure affordable permanent housing opportunities for clients.
Scope of Duties:
- Develop resource file and inventory of benefits services, based on participant need.
- Work with landlords, county boards of social services, local realtors, housing authorities and other subsidized apartment complexes to identify housing opportunities and resources. Maintain regular contact.
- Assist participants with applications for social service benefits.
- Facilitate information sharing documentation such as ‘Rent Smart” Financial Smart with participants surrounding the goals of housing and financial stability.
- Meet with each participant reporting homelessness and conduct housing assessment and planning efforts.
- Provide individual follow up for all referrals.
- Complete all necessary documentation in accordance with funding source requirements and policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records indicating services provided and progress made for participants.
- Interact with clients, staff, and outside contacts with respect and courtesy.
- Maintain client and staff confidentiality in compliance with administrative policies and procedures.
- Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings, conferences, and training sessions.
