What are the responsibilities and job description for the HVAC Mechanic position at Volunteers of America Delaware Valley?
Acts as a professional HVAC tradesperson who performs troubleshooting, installation and maintenance on heating/air conditioning and/or refrigeration systems. Coordinates preventative maintenance with internal staff and external contractors to effectively maintain equipment and systems. Documents all work performed on HVAC systems and keep accurate records for the Construction and Maintenance Department.
SCOPE OF DUTIES:
- Install heating/air conditioning/refrigeration equipment and systems.
- Inspect systems and their components (e.g. air conditioning, heating and refrigeration units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc.) and identify necessary repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.
- Diagnose problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning/refrigeration systems.
- Clean air conditioning and heating units (e.g. coils, condensation plans, drain lines, cooling towers, etc.).
- Prepare documentation (e.g. records of refrigerants, paperwork, logs, time and materials, specifications, etc.).
- Assist other trades personnel as required including plumbing, electrical and building maintenance.
- Interpret and understand HVAC drawings.
- Calculate correct gas charges and charge units.
- Detect and report leaks using appropriate methods.
- Sweat solder, silver solder and braze as required.
- Interact with clients, staff, and all outside contacts with respect and courtesy.
- Attend and participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings, supervisory conferences and training sessions.
- Maintain client and staff confidentiality in compliance with Administrative policies and procedures.
ADA ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to climb stairs, and work from ladder while using or carrying tools.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds several times during and 8-hour period.
- Ability to see clearly all types of plans, gauges, rulers and drive a light truck.
- Ability to operate power and non-power hand tools.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
