- Location: Alexandria, Virginia or possibly remote preferably within our strategic development markets: mid-Atlantic, MN, CO, TX.
- Pay Range: $110,000-$130,000 salaried, based on experience
About the job:
The Construction Manager will provide effective guidance to management and development staff on new and renovation construction projects, the priorities for rehabilitation of properties in the Volunteers of America National Services portfolio, and due diligence on renovations and potential acquisitions and construction projects.

- Degree in construction, architecture or related field.
- Ten (10) years’ experience in construction.
- Proficient knowledge of land use, zoning, site planning, construction, ADA / 504, Fair Housing, and various affordable housing and healthcare programs, including but not limited to the low income housing tax credit program, tax exempt bond financing, and other programs supporting affordable housing and healthcare.
- Successful experience in leadership, time management, negotiating, multi-project / multi-tasking skills and an evenhanded demeanor for dealing with a variety of tasks performed by a variety of staff and retained professionals.
- Strong construction management skills.
- Experience/commitment to the development of buildings and social service programs as they relate to senior, multifamily housing and healthcare communities.
- Administrative self-sufficiency required.
- Must possess a collaborative team player attitude, self-starter and ability to work independently.
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel; and Procore.
- Ability to work flexible hours and biweekly overnight travel is required.
Preferred Skills:
- Multifamily for both new and renovation type projects including occupied with relocation of residents experience preferred.
- Multi-site, or multi-state experience preferred.
- Contractor license desirable.
Essentials:
- Oversee new construction or renovation/rehab on low income housing tax credit (LIHTC)/other sources affordable housing and healthcare developments.
- Review new affordable housing sites and associated due diligence materials.
- Assist with due diligence on potential architects, contractors, and other development related third parties for inclusion in development projects.
- Review and approve specifications, bids, purchase orders, draws and contractual agreements.
- Travel to properties for review and inspection of work for major contracts, resulting from approved renovation or required because of natural disaster.
- Assist in developing and providing training to Housing Services and affiliates regarding maintenance systems and capital program policies and procedures. on new construction and rehab projects
- Identify physical plant problems with properties and propose solutions.
- Review and exercise approval and oversight authority on capital expenditures.
- Other duties/responsabilities as assigned.
