The Residential Housekeeper is responsible for performing routine manual tasks to assure the cleanliness, sanitary conditions, and appearance of the housing complex located in Portland, ME. The responsibilities include but not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, floor buffing, carpet cleaning, dusting, trash removal. May require an upkeep of the grounds and lawn. The incumbent will serve as the 24-hour emergency, on-call personnel for the housing facility.
Essential Job Functions:
- Clean bathrooms, offices, hallways, and any other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing and polishing; operates wet/dry vacuum for cleaning and shampooing carpeted areas.
- Empty and decontaminate trash containers; dispose of infectious waste when assigned.
- Move, rearrange, and dust furniture and fixtures.
- Use appropriate cleaning solutions as necessary for various tasks.
- Use safety precautions in all house and grounds keeping services.
- Clean and wax floors using industrial-size mops and/or machines; strip and polish floors using buffing machines.
- Wash blinds, windows, and walls with prescribed solutions.
- Sweep sidewalks, porches and tiled surfaces.
- Maintain equipment; reports need for painting and minor building or equipment repair to supervisor; replaces light bulbs and/or reports safety hazards to supervisor.
- Perform custodial related duties necessary to maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions.
- Follow, complete and submit weekly task lists to the supervisor.
- Maintain housekeeping budgets and other records as required
- Assist with any other tasks as assigned
- While clocked-in, all employees are required to make themselves present and accessible for residents, resident family members and other visitors. This will include answering the house phone, along with any in-person requests.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Physical ability to perform the work required, must be able to lift & carry 50 lb.
- Physical ability to perform manual work required.
- Experience in housekeeping for multi-unit building desirable.
- Knowledge of elderly life cycle issues, as well as physical or mental impairments common to the aging process helpful.
- Proven job reliability, diligence, attention to detail;
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently with minimum supervision;
- Ability to communicate effectively with tenants and staff;
- Prior experience as a housekeeper in a multi-unit building is desirable;
- Prior experience working with or knowledge of aging population / issues is desirable.
- Must be able to live on-site and provide 24-hour emergency, on-call service
Compensation:
The Residential Housekeeper will be provided with an on-grounds apartment with the following utilities paid ( heat, hot water, electricity). There is no monetary compensation. As this position is part time only, the employee is encouraged to seek additional employment outside the agency as supplemental income.
