Summary/Objective
The Veteran Outreach Coordinator provides operational oversight of the Veteran Outreach Center located in Rapid City. They are responsible for establishing positive relationships with program participants, staff, and community partners to ensure quality service delivery and contractual compliance. This position works with a team to maintain a safe, welcoming, and ‘home-like’ environment in the day center while linking veterans and their families to community resources as they pursue stabilization.
Essential Functions
- Monitor the access to and use of the Veteran’s Outreach Center with a welcoming, courteous, and professional presence while demonstrating the values of Volunteers of America.
- Confirm Veteran status for access, coordinate the intake of new participants, and document facility use through daily logs. This includes computerized data entry and report compilation.
- Attend to the environmental and cleaning standards of the facility to include cleaning logs on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis with prompt reporting of maintenance needs.
- Develop trusting and supportive relationships with the participants and their families while connecting them to community resources specific to their individualized needs.
- Provide informal coaching, presentations, and roundtable discussions with participants to aid in the development of responsible living patterns.
- Provide supervision, training, oversight, coaching, and performance evaluation for the Veteran Outreach Monitors as they support day center operations.
- Observe and enforce rules/regulations and codes of conduct for center participants with consistency, respect, and assertiveness, implementing Incident Report procedures.
- Process donations and complete supply purchasing to meet program needs, including maintaining orderly food pantry storage, emergency resources, and other supplies.
- Cultivate relationships with appropriate community resources and collaborations to ensure community awareness and facilitate referral practices.
- Conduct periodic environmental inspections to identify and address potential cleanliness, health, safety, and maintenance issues.
- Maintain compliance with contractual and regulatory agencies. This includes monitoring and enhancing program systems, policies, and practices.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has direct supervisory responsibilities and may serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the organization.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment in combination with an immediate service area and requires frequent movement between the two spaces. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones. Additional technologies (Ipad, radios, locks, etc.) are in place for supervision, security, safety, and communication.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. This includes lifting objects to 50LBS with ADA accommodations available.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This would require lifting files, opening filing cabinets, bending or stooping at necessary, working on a computer, or standing for prolonged periods.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position with benefits. Generally, the days and hours of work include Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with intermittent holiday coverage (when occurring on a weekday). Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Minimal travel is involved and would occur locally for community outreach and collaboration. An agency vehicle or rental is made available for use.
Required Education, Experience, or Eligibility Qualifications
- High school graduate degree or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and successful federal criminal background check with approved status.
Preferred Education and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in human services with one (1) year of case management experience OR an Associate’s degree with a minimum of two (2) years of case management-related experience.
- Experience in a leadership capacity.
- Preference will be given to Veterans.
