The Housing Navigator connects Veterans enrolled in the Supportive Services for Veterans & Families (SSVF) to safe, affordable housing. This role engages landlords, coordinates housing searches, assists with lease processes, and facilitates financial support. Working closely with the VA and HUD-VASH teams, the Housing Navigator ensures Veterans successfully transition into stable housing.
Key Responsibilities
Housing Support
- Identify and secure emergency and permanent housing options.
- Engage Veterans in the housing search and assist with lease agreements.
- Facilitate funding requests for deposits and rental assistance.
- Advocate for Veterans in landlord negotiations and issue resolution.
Landlord & Housing Network Development
- Maintain a database of landlords and available units.
- Build relationships with property owners willing to house Veterans.
- Track rental policies, lease terms, and property requirements.
Compliance & Reporting
- Work on-site at the VA twice per week to coordinate with HUD-VASH.
- Monitor lease compliance issues and support case management.
- Prepare weekly reports on housing placements and available units.
- Ensure adherence to funding and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or 3-5 years relevant experience.
- Experience in housing, leasing, or social services preferred.
- Knowledge of Fair Housing Laws and HUD regulations.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management.
- Valid driver’s license required.

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from four-year college or technical school preferred and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience negotiating contracts, lease terms, and agreements, strongly preferred. Public Housing Authority or real estate/property management experience preferred.
