The Lead Classroom Teacher / Parenting Skills Coach is responsible for ensuring the safety of children in the classroom, as well as educating and teaching skills to the children and parents within residential program services. This position will lead parenting groups (topics might include parenting skills, healthy attachment, bonding, and child development) and communicate with parents regarding their child’s learning and developmental goals and engagement within the classroom. Must act in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and VOA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement lesson plan curriculum:
- Scaffold the lesson plan within the curriculum as needed to meet the individual learning needs of the children within the classroom.
- Develop focused direction within lesson plans to help children improve skills.
- Recognize where specialized intervention may support a child’s needs and connect to other team members to ensure continuity of care.
- Teach / coach and supervise with Classroom Aides:
- Facilitate and maintain structured, safe, educational, and enriching environment for children
- Redirect, deescalate, and manage child behaviors
- Implement classroom curriculum
- Assist children to meet their developmental milestones
- Complete the Child Care Development Fund process with families
- Ensure licensing policies and regulations are maintained
- Ensure VOA policies and regulations are maintained
- Responsible for staffing, including hiring, performance management, and corrective action.
- Responsible for monitoring payroll and approving timecards for direct reports.
- Maintain team schedules and arrange coverage for any gaps in shift coverage.
- Facilitate Training and onboarding of new staff.
- Coach and collaborate with parents in the program:
- Implement evidenced-based parenting curriculum during facility parenting group programming.
- Adapt to client’s individual needs and learning style while utilizing evidence-based practices to model and educate client on developmentally appropriate ways to engage, discipline, problem solve and enrich their child(ren). Provide 1 on 1 parenting and skills interventions and coaching as needed.
- Maintain chronological written records of events that occur during the shift and document as required within VOA’s electronic health record system.
- Maintain all documentation connected to licensing regulations and requirements.
- Maintain Child Services and legally mandated child abuse and neglect reporting standards.
- Responsible for ensuring all documentation is in the proper location within Carelogic, Teams, or shared drives, and is up to date/turned in.
- Attend the weekly clinical huddle.
- Implement evidenced-based parenting curriculum during facility parenting group programming.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Classroom aides
QUALIFICATIONS and COMPETENCIES:
- Education, Experience & Licensure
- This position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or the acquisition of bachelor’s degree within 6 months of hire, in the field of early childhood education or other relevant field.
- Experience in addiction and recovery preferred, as well as experience working in the human services field; knowledge of trauma informed care and strengths-based approach.
- A valid Driver’s License and proof of individual automobile insurance is required in addition to a driving record that is in compliance with Volunteers of America only if the employee is assigned to transport program, participants, or any other type of activity that mandates driving
- CPR and first aid certification is required or must be obtained within 60 days.
- *Additional Requirements for work locations in Indiana: Must be able to pass all required Department of Child Services background checks.
