Role Description
Reporting to the VP of Development, the Content and Social Media Specialist plays a key role in advancing Volunteers of America Western Washington’s mission: to empower people and strengthen communities. This position is responsible for creating and executing compelling content across various platforms to raise awareness, drive donations, and foster community engagement. By crafting impactful narratives that highlight the organization’s work and resonate with diverse audiences, the specialist ensures all content aligns with VOAWW’s brand guidelines and values.
Key Responsibilities:
Content Creation and Storytelling
- Capture high-quality visual content, including photos and videos, to showcase the VOAWW’s programs and beneficiaries.
- Interview clients, staff, and volunteers to create impactful stories for fundraising, marketing, and awareness campaigns.
- Collaborate with the fundraising and Marketing & Communications teams to develop materials that inspire donors and community members.
Social Media Management
- Maintain and manage all VOAWW social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and others.
- Develop and manage a content calendar to ensure consistent posting across all platforms.
- Identify and understand target audiences for each platform to tailor content that resonates and drives engagement.
- Collaborate with the fundraising and program teams to identify and refine target audience profiles for each social media platform, ensuring tailored messaging and campaign effectiveness.
- Generate creative ideas for social media posts, including engaging text, high-quality images, videos, and stories.
- Write captions and copy that align with VOAWW’s tone of voice and mission.
- Monitor and respond to comments and messages promptly to foster positive community engagement.
- Analyze social media metrics to track performance, identify trends, and adjust strategies to optimize results.
Collaboration and Support
- Work closely with the fundraising and marketing team and program staff to align content with organizational goals.
- Assist in coordinating media needs for events and campaigns.
- Stay informed about trends in social media, digital marketing, and nonprofit storytelling to bring fresh ideas to the team.
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience in content creation, social media management, or digital marketing.
- High proficiency in using social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn), analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, platform-specific insights), and content scheduling software (e.g., Sprout or HubSpot).
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Basic photography and videography skills; proficiency in editing software is a plus.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Commitment to maintain donor and client confidentiality and handling sensitive information with integrity.
- Strong collaborative skills to work across several program areas.
- Must live within commutable distance from Everett, WA.
- Reliable transportation for working on site and regular local travel to program sites.
- Flexibility to work occasionally outside of standard work hours for special events or projects
- Passion for VOAWW's mission
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in the nonprofit sector.
- Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools.
- Knowledge of SEO and digital advertising strategies.
