Volunteer Docent Position
As a Volunteer Docent at the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, you will play a vital role in providing a welcoming environment for visitors and guiding them through the Museum and/or programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and welcome visitors from diverse backgrounds
- Conduct museum tours for approximately one hour in length, highlighting the rich history of African Americans in the United States
- Maintain the security of the collection during tours
- Represent the Museum in a professional and courteous manner to members of the visiting public
- Interact with program participants and visitors in a positive and engaging manner
Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must complete a background check
- Must log volunteer hours
- Must attend professional development and volunteer meetings
- Comfortable speaking in front of groups
- Desire to learn about history and share their knowledge
- Reliable and punctual
- Flexibility, enthusiasm, and an attitude of respect for working with diverse staff and visitors
