Custodian

The Deland Family YMCA is looking for a part-time Custodian to join their team. The Custodian is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, including such duties as mopping, dusting, and trash removal.

The schedule for this position will include afternoon hours starting:

Monday-Friday

The rate of pay is $15 per hour.

Job-Specific Functions:

• Main focus is to assure that the Locker rooms are clean.
• Assure Wellness Center areas are clean, presentable, and clear of hazards at all times. This is accomplished by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
• Cleans strength/free weight and cardio equipment in the Wellness Center by vacuuming under/around the equipment and wiping down all equipment and surfaces. Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies as needed.
• May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, and general cleaning.
• Report/record any equipment problems and ensure that faulty equipment is not used by members or staff.
• Remain familiar with emergency procedures in the program and the facility, understanding specific responsibilities in case of fire, hurricane, tornado, or any other emergency.
• Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical and/or Mental Requirements

• Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.
• Ability to work with cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
• Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
• Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities; semi-reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; carrying; working in narrow and/or confining spaces; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.

Job-Specific Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Talents

• Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
• Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
• Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
• Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.

Education: H.S. or equivalent

Certs/Licenses: CPR/AED strongly preferred, required within 30 days of hire

Experience: Cleaning/Custodial experience preferred

Criminal background check and drug screening required.
