POSITION: Pool Technician - Full-Time
HOURLY RATE: $15 - $17
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Director
BRANCH: Volusia Flagler Association - YMCA

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Director, this position is responsible for ensuring that the pool and facility is clean, safe, sanitized and filtering and purification equipment is functioning properly. Performs maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment as assigned; stocks and stows supplies in the proper locations and removes unused equipment from public areas as needed; prepares facility and grounds for daily and program users while assuring all pool safety rules and regulations are enforced.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
- Maintain the pool area including cleaning of the deck and other maintenance tasks.
- Respond to aquatics related work orders in a timely, friendly and efficient manner to assess and repair non-functioning machinery or equipment.
- Repairs and maintains electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Transports and stores hazardous chemicals.
- Completes scheduled water cleaning, using chemicals like chlorine as specified to meet health requirements.
- Regularly testing swimming pool and splash pads water quality balance for the following: CL, PH, TA, CH and CYA.
- Maintains records of all activities and prepares daily / weekly / monthly reports.
- Picks up trash and cleans public swimming pools, restrooms and facility areas.
- Operates and inspects tools and equipment and makes minor adjustments and repairs.
- Operates vehicles to transport various types of materials and equipment.
- Cleaning and servicing swimming pool filtration units.
- Servicing heating, circulation and de-humidifier systems.
- Fixing lights above and below water level.
- Use swimming pool vacuum cleaners to clean the pool floor.
- Checking and repairing corrosion, cracks and leaks in the pool walls or floors.
- Use a telescopic pole with net, or similar, to clean and remove any debris.
- Make sure equipment like shade structures, lifeguard stands, play equipment and slides are in good working order.
- Logging and reporting equipment faults or water quality problems to Aquatic Facility Supervisor.
- Tracking equipment warranties and managing warranty repairs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is preferred.
- One (1) to two (2) years of work experience in similar role or any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities listed.
- Must have experience in pool, splash pad and fountain maintenance including chemical use, chemical level testing, pump, equipment maintenance, pool plumbing and all other related items.
(A comparable amount of relevant training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.)
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Skilled in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Skilled in using computers for data entry.
- Skilled in the use and care of tools, materials and equipment used in the type of work outlined in the essential job duties above.
- Ability to organize and communicate effectively.
- Ability to perform routine unskilled and semi-skilled manual work.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions and understand and follow oral instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver's License by date of hire.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO/AFO) or obtain within 90 days of hire.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
