We are seeking a Recovery Peer Specialist who can use their personal experience and training to guide fathers through their own recovery journeys. This role involves one-on-one participant support, group facilitation, and resource navigation—all delivered in a respectful, person-centered way.
Key Responsibilities
- One-on-One Participant Support- Main Focus
- Offer individualized peer support to family members who are navigating substance use and recovery.
- Actively listen, share personal insights, and foster hope by drawing on lived experiences.
- Co-create goals and explore strengths with participants to guide their personal growth and well-being.
- Assist in Father’s transitioning from SUD or Correction’s facilities and maintain ongoing contact
- Peer Support and Advocacy
- Provide a welcoming and empathetic environment for fathers to share their stories.
- Advocate alongside participants to help them connect with community supports and services.
- Encourage self-advocacy and empower fathers to make informed decisions on their recovery paths.
- Recovery Education and Resource Navigation
- Offer father and family-focused information about substance use and recovery approaches in a compassionate manner.
- Assist participants in identifying and accessing local resources, support groups, and community programs.
- Collaborate with other team members to develop and share resource materials that address family’s needs.
- Assist with child reunification and DCF- child welfare advocacy
- Group Facilitation and Community Engagement
- Coordinate or co-facilitate peer-led support groups tailored for fathers in recovery.
- Engage in community outreach efforts to raise awareness of VRA programs and services.
- Cultivate partnerships with local organizations to strengthen the network of recovery supports.
- Co-facilitate groups in a correction or SUD treatment facility
- Documentation and Team Collaboration
- Maintain confidential notes and documentation in alignment with organizational guidelines.
- Share regular progress updates with the supervisor and participate in team meetings.
- Pursue ongoing professional development, training, and supervision to enhance peer support skills.
Qualifications
- Required
- Ability to pass a level two background check
- Personal lived experience with SUD and two years of self-defined recovery
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect authentically.
- Knowledge of peer support principles, self-empowerment strategies, and local resources.
- Preferred
- Previous experience working with peers/families in a peer or advocacy capacity.
- Familiarity with local community programs, services, and support networks in Volusia County.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills to serve diverse populations.
