Group Trucks Purchasing is located in 52 sites around the world, has 1,300 employees and a yearly spend of 120 BSEK (~$11B USD). We have 2,550 suppliers in serial production that delivers 1.9 billion parts to Group Truck plants annually. Our team, Electromobility, Autonomous and Electronics Purchasing, North America is a key contributor to Volvo Group’s Mission with the increase in technology, features and the electrification of our products. We enable this by securing QDCFTSR (Quality, Delivery, Cost, Feature, Technology, Sustainability and Risk Management) targets through Sourcing, Product Development, and Operations support of both serial production and service parts with strong collaboration with our Electromobility and Electronics, Electromechanics & Autonomous Strategic Lines located in Europe, and Hydrogen Solutions & New Technologies Lines located in Europe. We are also focused on the future success of Volvo Group through helping to accelerate technology and business innovations through partnerships in what we call the CampX by Volvo Group!
What You Will Be Doing
This Associate Project Buyer position will serve as the purchasing interface towards projects and suppliers within the Electromobility segment during the entire project phase. You will report to the Head of Electromobility North America, and will be based out of Greensboro, NC.
Main areas of responsibility include:
- Support sourcing plan for components and systems according to cross-functional time plans
- Support supplier selection process, securing that they comply with Volvo's targets, budgets, and timelines
- Secure all standard/specific agreements with suppliers
- Support sourcing activities in project phase with support of the Commodity Buyer and Group Manager
- Challenge, negotiate, secure, and report fulfillment of project targets in terms of Quality, Delivery, Cost, Feature, Technology, Sustainability, and Risk Management (QDCFTSR) targets during sourcing and project/industrialization phases
- Monitor, identify, and mitigate risks in the project phase
- Ensure that suppliers are prepared for production, including capacity and all needed system updates
- Manage Project Performance Reviews with suppliers and stakeholders
- Provide input on Supplier Project Performance to the Commodity Buyer
- Manage parts and orders in project phase and ensure a timely part transfer in the system to the Commodity Buyer(s)

- Either 1 - 3 years of entry level purchasing or supply chain experience, or recent graduate with Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or similar who has held an internship within purchasing/supply chain
- Experience from the manufacturing industry is an advantage
- Desire to learn the strategic side of purchasing (i.e. contracts, negotiations, supplier sourcing, etc.)
- Good business acumen, agile in way of working
- Desire to work in a collaborative team towards a common purpose
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Self-driven with a passion for driving fact-based solutions
- An innovator with a continuous improvement mindset
- A true collaborator with an innate ability to be a connector and relationship builder
