Core Responsibilities
What you will do
- Maintain current working knowledge of all federal, state, and local environmental regulations, and statutes affecting all New River Valley (NRV) Plant operations including, but not limited to, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the Clean Air Act (CAA), Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Cleanup, and Liability Act (CERCLA/Superfund), the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).
- Maintain current working knowledge of all applicable regulations of the United States Department of Transportation (US-DOT) and Homeland Security Act, and other agencies in regard to shipping, receiving, storage, and transport of hazardous materials and wastes related to the operation of the NRV Plant.
- Collect and compile all information and data necessary to prepare complete accurate environmental permit applications, and agency and corporate reports and surveys. Maintain all environmental records and communications in support of applicable federal, state, and local permits and regulations, the Environmental Management System (EMS), and Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) policies.
- Review of representativeness, completeness, and quality of database records for chemicals used in the facility and prepare chemical reports in response to the requirements of the NRV environmental permit conditions, applicable environmental regulations, and Volvo Corporate.
- Prepare government agency and corporate reports for environmental requirements, including but not limited to Title V annual compliance certification, monthly and annual air emissions reports, SARA 312, SARA 313 Form R, storm water reports, hazardous waste, Volvo Corporate reports and other department reports, including KPIs, as required.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of environmental database management software, such as the Essential Suite environmental database management system, the EMS database import tools. Support the testing and development of new databases and/or IT tools in support of environmental requirements for the NRV facility, as necessary.
- Prepare for sources tests by preparing scope of work, bids, requisitions, project logistics, coordinate preparation of tests protocols with contractors, coordinate collection of data to support tests and determine process usage data during tests. Review results and draft/final reports for agencies.
- Develop, maintain, and update the Environmental Management System and Energy Management System documentation, such as procedures and work instructions and related documentation, both in hard copy and on the intranet, and as required for conformance with EMS requirements.
- Monitor and maintain records of waste generation, waste profiles, shipment and manifesting, transportation, and ultimate treatment and/or disposal of all hazardous and non-hazardous wastes from all operations of the NRV Plant.
- Manage environmental risks by conducting periodic inspections and audits of all hazardous and non-hazardous waste transport and disposal firms, either being used or under consideration by the NRV Plant, exercising sound judgement in transport and disposal vendor selection.
- Perform emissions and various discharge calculations based on AP-42 emission factors, mass balance techniques, and other engineering methods.
- Maintain current, up-to-date agency, corporate, and plant-level communications logs.
