Von Stiehl Winery, Wisconsin’s oldest licensed winery since 1967, strives to enrich our community by the friendly service, award-winning wines, and laid-back environment it provides. We believe employee ability, energy and ideas contribute to our ongoing success. We are currently seeking outgoing individuals who have a passion for wine to assist in our tasting room. The winery operates year-round, with more hours available in the summer. Within this position, employees are encouraged to have fun while selling and educating guests about our wines, wine clubs, and winery operations. Employees are also trained to handle payment transactions and other tasting room responsibilities.
Schedule:
- Weekdays: 9am - 5pm (Hours vary upon season)
- Weekends: 9am - 5pm (Hours vary upon season)
- Holidays (Exceptions: Easter, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day & New Year’s Day; with reduced hours Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve)
Skills/Requirements
- Effective time management handling multiple tasks on a daily basis
- Project Management
- Highly effective communication skills across multiple departments and managers/staff
- Working knowledge of wine systems, wine business, wine in general, legal requirements, office software
- Proficient in Word, Excel, Power Point, POS systems, Google Docs
- Positive attitude with the ability to lead, coach and develop staff
Position Duties
- Supports the Tasting Room Manager in all aspects of managing the tasting room:
- Interviews, hires, fires, disciplines, reviews, coaches and orientates all tasting room staff and stock boys
- Maintain confidentiality and respect for customers, employees, and business information
- Availability to work most weekdays, weekends, and holidays between the hours of 9am and 5pm
- Handles, addresses, records, and follows up with staff issues, as well as notifying the
- Tasting Room Manager of issues and coaching
- Motivates employees through exhibiting excellent customer service skills and values of the company
- Promotes club membership sales by aiding, encouraging and training staff in sales techniques
- Conducts an annual review of the training manual and training materials with the Tasting Room Manager and Operations Manager
- Celebrates staff successes and aids in developing and maintaining a recognition program
- Continues to develop standards and ways to enhance or improve upon the customer and employee experience
- Aids in overseeing daily tasting room activities: Sample & sell wine to customers, washes glasses, and guides tours
- Helps develop retail promotions to adequately maintain COGs and tracking with the Tasting Room Manager
- Always maintains a clean and safe working environment
- Assists in event planning, customer communication, tracking, and coordination of special events/tastings
- Aids in developing holiday retail strategy including but not limited to baskets, boxes, wrapped wine, gift cards, etc.
- Coordinates customer certificates
Physical Demands / Working Conditions
- Standing for long periods of time; with ability to walk, bend, reach and stoop
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs
- Working outdoors under a tent or in direct sunlight (Seasonally)
- Occasional exposure to loud environments with several conversations, music and outdoor noise
- Perform in crowded spaces / close contact with patrons
