Vontive is a fast-growing startup, named to Deloitte’s top-10 in the Pacific Northwest, enhancing the investor mortgage space with our best-in-class technology. The Data Team is central to Vontive’s growth strategy and maintains several mission-critical products supporting our Sales, Underwriting, and Capital Markets teams. Our 5-person department is ready to expand by bringing on a hands-on Engineering Manager who will grow into a wider leadership position.
The Role
We see the candidate stepping into a combined engineering role and leadership position, with leadership becoming more and more important as the products mature. You’ll manage 2-3 high-impact existing products while mentoring the rest of the team, whose members range in experience from 2 to 13 years, and hopefully defining your own product goals after getting familiar with the existing tools. We need someone who can write production code, but also communicate well with non-technical stakeholders, architect scalable systems, and guide our team cross-functional teams through complex technical challenges.
What You'll Own
- Engineering Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to our other engineers. You’ll be able to make critical decisions on the future of our products with the full backing of the engineering directors and CTO.
- Individual Contribution: Develop and optimize production code across our tech stack (Python, AWS, PostgreSQL, Docker).
- Product Ownership: Take charge of key areas, such as our loan pricing engine, underwriting assistance tools, and the data warehouse / BI stack.
- Infrastructure & DevOps: Work with AWS services to enhance the deployment, monitoring, and security of our APIs, ETLs, and data warehouse.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, capital markets, sales, and underwriting teams to drive solutions in our platform technology.
What We're Looking For
- Degree in a quantitative discipline from an accredited university, with a preference for postgraduate degree holders.
- 6-7 years of software engineering experience, with a focus on lending or property technology (e.g., Kiavi, LoopNet, Zillow, SoFi, and similar).
- Strong Python and PostgreSQL skills, with experience in API development.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, Git, Docker, and cloud-based data pipelines.
- A strategic mindset with strong attention to detail and the ability to take ownership of multiple products.
- Experience leading and mentoring engineers, but also eager to author your own products and features.
