Position: Athletic Trainer
Division: Intercollegiate Athletics
Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Position Duration: Full-time
Position Schedule: Various shifts, extended evenings and weekends and travel may be required
SUMMARY
The Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive athletic training services to student-athletes, ensuring their physical well-being and optimal performance. This role includes injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. The Athletic Trainer will collaborate with coaches, medical professionals, and support staff to develop and implement effective health care programs. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, a commitment to athlete care, and the ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manage all aspects of athlete healthcare
- Provide immediate care and management of athletic injuries during practices and games.
- Develop and implement injury prevention programs.
- Conduct injury evaluations and create tailored treatment plans.
- Oversee rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
- Collaborate with team physicians, coaches, and other health care professionals.
- Educate student-athletes on injury prevention, nutrition, and overall wellness.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations.
- Provide overall care, prevention, and rehabilitation of injuries for student-athletes
- Coordinate coverage of all athletic events, practices, and athletic training facility coverage and treatments
- Serve as primary Athletic Trainer for the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.
- Communicate regularly with coaches on the status of athletes—injury evaluation, medical appointments, rehabilitation plan, and return to practice and competition.
- Oversee the scheduling of physician visits and surgeries
- Establish concussion protocol, establish a concussion baseline for each athlete, and monitor concussed athletes
- Oversee the reporting of all athletic training services through the insurance software; includes but is not limited to ensuring all student-athletes check-in upon entering the athletic training facility and ensuring that all services are rendered into the insurance software with 48 hours of date of service
- Manage athletic training budget
- Order athletic training supplies as needed throughout the year
- Create and update athletic training policies and procedures including emergency action plans
- Annually review and update athletic training forms
- Authorization, and HIPAA Release form; Athletic Injury Guidelines, and insurance cards are on file prior to practice or conditioning activities
- Ensure all injuries are properly documented and digitally recorded in order to maintain compliance and to refer back to as needed
- Meet regularly with the campus insurance director to review athletic insurance
EDUCATION
- Earned degree from a CAATE accredited bachelor or master’s program.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Extended evenings and weekends and travel may be required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, current certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer, and State licensure or eligibility to obtain licensure in the state of South Carolina.
