What will you do as an Operations Supervisor?
The Operations Supervisor ensures that all products are loaded and/or unloaded safely and
efficiently, and performs work as instructed by the Operations Manager functioning as a team
member with other operations personnel. The Operations Supervisor, working as a team member
with other operations personnel, is responsible for the safe and efficient loading and unloading of all products, and carries out tasks assigned by the Operations Manager.

What do we expect from you as an Operations Supervisor?
Must possess or be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) as required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act
Minimum of 3 years terminal operations experience
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, various email and internet programs and applications, sales and inventory software
Previous supervisory experience helpful
Experience working with Federal, state and local environmental regulations including RCRA
Excellent English communication skills both oral and written; Spanish language helpful
Knowledge of regulatory requirements
Experience working in a safety critical environment
High School Diploma or GED
College courses helpful
What does your day look like?
Your core responsibilities are:
Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of SH&E principles and values; champions safety as necessary
Enforces plant safety policies; maintains safe work environment; ensures all safety regulations, laws, Company practices, etc. are followed; ensures permit compliance
Is a working Supervisor, spending 80% of his/her time in-the-field supporting the Operators and/or directly performing operational activities, and 20% of his/her time on office communications and paperwork
Supervises operations staff; coaches, motivates, develops, trains, and performs employee evaluations
Documents employee time sheets, absenteeism and overtime; sets improvement goals and follows up as required for employee six-month progressions; performs quality checks on all operators
Supervises and expedites all loading, unloading, and product movement operations; schedules operators ensuring manpower levels meet needs; prioritizes assignments
Ensures employees have proper equipment; keeps complete inventory and maintenance schedule of all equipment including vehicles, tools, portable radios, and dedicated hoses
Maintains operations facilities appearance; performs inspections; reviews and updates standard operating procedures as necessary
Communicates with management and customer service problems concerning delivery modes
Manages internal activities; recommends and implements improvements; plans and schedules miscellaneous terminal activities
Verifies shift changes run smoothly; ensures proper relief procedures; schedules overtime as necessary
Enters maintenance work orders in preventative maintenance system and coordinate with maintenance on planning and day-to-day activities
Check on the quality and quantity performance of the contracted third parties
Assist operators as needed
Utilize the available resources effectively to achieve maximum productivity
Oversees and manages waste disposal operations as required
Initiates Management of Change process for scopes applicable to area of responsibility
Acts as Gatekeeper for work requests submitted on shift
Ensures all training is current; conducts safety meetings and periodic operational training sessions; collaborates with Training Coordinator
Trains regularly on all Federal, state and local environmental regulations, requirements and guidelines including, but not limited to, RCRA requirements; follows and adheres to all guidelines, regulations, and requirements
Functions as Immediate Response Leader for emergency situations inside of facility. ERT membership may be required if minimum headcount cannot be attained through volunteer participation
Confronts problems and conducts proper actions for discipline of employees
Reports incidents, safety violations, operational errors, and inadequate performance of operators to their immediate Manager; Investigates SHE incidents and implements corrective actions
Works with the Operations Manager to determine present and future needs for programs, personnel, equipment, and facilities
Assumes delegated responsibilities of Manager in his/her absence
Conducts daily Shift handover/Pass-on meetings in accordance with Vopak Standards
Liaise with other supervisors to ensure the terminal functions effectively
Responsible for ensuring proper product quality and quantity within the framework of legislation and company regulations concerning safety, environment and labor conditions
Assesses tasks and do risk assessments and communicating to the field operators and verifying with the field operators to make sure the tasks are done safely
Ensures that Vopak and site operational policies & procedures are adhered to
Performs other duties assigned by management that fall within the generally expected scope of this position.

Work Environment
This position requires an employee to be in an office environment as well as exposed to outside elements. Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of over 100°F and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 0°F in the winter months. There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous. The employee may work in elevated environments. The employee must be able to wear PPE required by the location where work is conducted. General office noise may be experienced during office work. Louder sounds and vibrations may be experienced when working in the field. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, speak and hear. The employee is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; the employee may be required, on occasion, to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may be required to climb ladders/storage tanks up to 50’ in height. The employee may be required to enter confined spaces. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employees may be required to travel by air, rail, bus, or car.
