The Senior Staff Accountant will be joining our fast-paced, high performing team at our office located in Chesapeake, VA., formally known as Tri-State. Reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Staff Accountant will be responsible for ensuring transactions are accurately recorded, reconciling, and reviewing certain balance sheet accounts, documenting business processes to maintain and improve internal controls, and most importantly, being someone that can help drive improvements and efficiency throughout the accounting function.
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting and have a strong working knowledge of US GAAP with 3-5 years experience in a wide range of accounting areas. This is a great opportunity that will allow for career growth as Vortex Companies continues to expand and evolve.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
- Prepare complex journal entries and account reconciliations
- Assist FP&A in the research of monthly variances and ad hoc projects
- Assist with external audits
- Continuously analyze current automation of the accounting process and present improvement suggestions
- Assist with ad-hoc analysis and special projects as requested and engage in various department-wide initiatives
- Work closely with accounting team members to ensure efficiencies are utilized and financial data is complete and accurate
- Participate in business transformation projects to streamline and drive financial close processes improvements
- Work cross functionally with other departments to improve efficiencies in the accounting function
Requirements/ Qualifications
- Associates Degree and/or Bachelors Degree in Accounting/Finance; Business Management, or other relevant degree preferred or directly commensurate industry experience required
- 3 yrs minimum directly related accounting experience required
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to multi-task, adhere to tight deadlines and work under pressure
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Strong communication skills, both orally and written
- Team player, but also has ability to work independently
