VOX DJs is a live entertainment company established in 1984. The DJ/MC is a core position held at VOX DJs. VOX DJs looks for Unique, Professional and Passionate individuals who are dedicated to making every event they work one of a kind and special for every client. The DJ/MC’s primary responsibility is to prepare and perform all the music and announcements necessary for live events. VOX DJs has become renowned as the highest rated DJ/MC company in the southwest based on our staff putting the client needs first and always working as a team with venues and other vendors.
The First Step: Training in our DJ Academy (Held in Escondido, CA)
We have trained over 200 DJ/MCs to date in our weekly class format. This training in paid. You will also have the opportunity to get paid assisting our Senior DJs on actual events as part of your training.
- Assistant DJ/Academy DJ (Entry Training Level)
- Weekly classes with opportunity to grow as a DJ, MC and overall Event Professional
- Upon completion of class, depending on overall standing and scores, a job position as a lead DJ in one of our tiers may be offered.
- Assistant DJ Pay Rate:
- Starts at $16.25/hr
- Mileage and Expense Reimbursements
- Typically equates to $150 - $250 per event.
- Overtime Eligible
The Second Step: Become Part of the Lead DJ Roster
The goal of any DJ to come through our training would be to become a Lead DJ on our roster in one of our many tiers. We then have our Booking Team work hard to get your booked consistently each week on great events.

- Event Pay Ranges from Roughly $175 - $1000 per event depending on DJ Tier Level. (Pay based on Hourly Rates between $15/hr - $85/hr)

Qualifications and Expectations
- Job Requirements:
- Reliable transportation that can transport our Standard DJ equipment (speakers, mixers, stands, and equipment bags)
- Ability to lift/setup/tear-down and manage heavy equipment
- Must be physically able to work long days up to 12 hours per shift
- Must be available to work Saturdays and most Fridays and Sundays as well
- Laptop computer
- Able to legally work in the US
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Experience
- Previous Event Industry Experience: not required but recommended
- Previous Customer Service Experience: Ideally 2 Years Minimum working directly with clients/customers
- Professionalism
- On-time for events and meetings
- Able to excel with little to no direct supervision
- Answers emails and calls in a timely manner (within 24 hours)
- Is coach-able, positively takes direction from those in authority (Manager, venue director, client, event coordinator, etc.)
- Conducts themselves appropriately during an event, as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Always friendly, approachable, and enthusiastic at all times when working with or on behalf of VOX DJs (Focus on what you can do...not on what you can't do.)
- Works well with others (including peers, vendors, clients)
- Overall great awareness of what it means to be a representative of the VOX DJs team versus operating on their own. Be a team player
- Awareness and ownership of DJ responsibilities from booking to completion of the event.
- Equipment & Event Management
- Follows proper check-in/checkout procedures
- Attempts to troubleshoot basic technical issues in a timely manner
- Is well-prepared prior to every event
- DJ/MC Performance
- Basic music knowledge of multiple genres and "current" music (Example: Able to categorize the genre of a given artist or suggest an artist or song based on a given genre.)
- Great sense of rhythm and timing
- Ability to control the tone and flow of a wedding or event through the planned structure/timeline
- Can confidently speak to large groups of people with leadership
