Position:  Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant (PART TIME)

Job Responsibilities:

1. Performs, under general supervision, a variety of technical and clerical tasks in assisting a teacher of students with disabilities.
2. Performs a wide range of tasks in order to support the efforts of the teacher, meet the needs of all students, and ensure the provision of quality instruction for all students. 
3. Provides one-on-one assistance with academics and behavioral supports needed and may lead small group activities. 
4. Assists teacher with general housekeeping, clerical duties and repair/maintenance of school equipment.
5. Assists the teacher with executing instruction and evaluating its effectiveness, participates in planning.
6. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. 
7. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. 
8. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
9. Adheres to all school policies 
10. Adapt classroom materials and lessons at the direction of the teacher.
11. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence 
12. Obtains and maintains training necessary to perform this job as directed by the principal or EC Director.

Teaching:

Conducts learning activities for small groups of students

1. Lead a variety of classroom activities aimed at building students’ social, behavioral, and mental health. The special education teacher assistant may also teach lessons with the teacher supervision.
2. Guides students in working and playing harmoniously with other students utilizing social skills objectives and Voyager Academy Character Education Traits.
3. Contributes to making or copying materials needed for lessons

Record Keeping

1. Student observation and reporting is a part of the special education teacher assistant’s role. 
2. They may observe students and keep data on student’s successes and challenges within the classroom. 

Classroom Responsibilities

1. Assists teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas.
2. Assists with the safe supervision of students.
3. Follows supervising teacher’s directions
4. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Teacher/Principal may assign.
