Position Description:
The Products Software Development Lead will software development and testing for a broad portfolio of defense and space systems products for Voyager’s Product Organization. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills and have strong technical expertise in software architecture, requirements, design, development, and test. The candidate will evaluate existing designs, identify product improvements, support product development process improvements, the creation of product roadmaps, and strategic planning for future product development and maturation. The Products Software Development Lead will report to Voyager’s VP of Product Development.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and product development subject matter expertise in software architecture, requirements, design, development, HW/SW integration and test for Voyager products.
- Evaluate existing software products, development plans, processes, and tools; recommend and implement necessary changes to efficiently develop and deliver software solutions for Voyager products.
- Support the development of product requirements, specifications, and identification of applicable standards.
- Provide oversight to the development team, ensuring adherence to best practices and high coding standards.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including product line managers, designers, and leadership, to ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables.
- Ensure that software products meet requirements, quality standards, and are scalable, maintainable, and secure.
- Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables; track progress and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Provide support for production, delivery, and post-delivery customer operations.
- Develop clear solutions, provide in-depth technical assessments, and proactively identify, address, and resolve issues and risks to drive risk-informed decision-making and product lifecycle sustainability.
- Champion and implement software reuse strategies across product development and sustainment efforts to maximize efficiency, reduce technical debt, and accelerate time to market.
- Identify, capture, and apply lessons learned in support of continuous process improvement.
- Travel: 10-20% for an on-site candidate; up to 25% for remote candidate
Requirements:
- Prior software development experience in one or more of the following programming languages: C, C , Python, Java, Matlab.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, physics, or equivalent technical discipline.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in product management roles.
- Experience with agile software development processes and tools, software version control, database management systems, continuous integration / continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Knowledgeable in software engineering standards used in the aerospace and defense industry, such as DO-178 and NPR 7150.2.
- Proven track record of leading successful product initiatives and projects.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in advanced product management and software development methodologies.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills; able to sort through complex issues and develop clear solutions, provide in-depth technical assessments and identify, address, and resolve issues and risks.
- Experience in requirements development and analysis, and the development of systems engineering-related documents including requirements/specifications, interface control documents, and validation & verification plans.
- Ability to coordinate with numerous stakeholders/customers from NASA and DoD agencies to commercial industry.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Highly organized individual, capable of handling multiple competing priorities; able to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and quickly adjust in a dynamic environment.
Preferences:
- 10 years of program or technical leadership experience.
- 10 years of experience in software architecture, requirements definition/analysis, engineering/design, fielding/integration, and verification or analysis.
- Experience as a software lead or software architect in the space industry.
- Deep understanding of the Space market, including industry trends and regulatory requirements.
- Experience setting up a continuous integration/continuous development (CI/CD) pipeline.
- Demonstrated product development process improvement experience.
- Relevant experience engaging government and commercial customers to advance projects and initiatives at varying degrees of complexity through engineering management.
- Proficiency in various enterprise tools, including enterprise resource planning, product data management, product lifecycle management, quality management, manufacturing resource planning, and engineering design and analysis.
Salary Range: $175,000 To $230,000 Annually
