Position Description:

The Vice President of Product Development provides strategic leadership and support to drive product development and associated engineering efforts across the enterprise. Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Products & Engineering, this role ensures that product development aligns with corporate strategy, business objectives, and customer commitments while enabling collaboration across Business Development, Program Execution, and Product Development.

At the intersection of these functions, Product Development plays a critical role in opportunity realization, market-driven innovation, and seamless delivery, turning strategic vision into operational success. This role drives long-term product lifecycle strategies, leveraging customer-funded and internally funded product and technology development efforts to drive enterprise value and ensure customer satisfaction through efficient and effective product development and delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Enterprise-Wide Product Development
    • Manage Voyager product portfolio and develop long-term product lifecycle strategies that leverage customer-funded and internally funded product and technology development efforts to achieve customer satisfaction
    • Provide technical leadership and product development subject matter expertise to advance Voyager’s defense and space systems products
    • Coordinate and manage efforts to evaluate existing designs, perform product gap assessments, and make recommendations for future product designs, features, capabilities, and upgrades
    • Ensure proper project planning, including the development of cost, schedule, and technical baselines for product development activities
    • Guide the development of product requirements, specifications, and identification of applicable standards for Voyager products
    • Oversee product design, development, manufacturing, assembly, integration, test, verification, validation, certification, delivery and post-delivery customer support activities
    • Ensure adherence to quality standards throughout the product development process
  • Engineering Proficiency
    • Implement proven engineering best practices, processes and standard tool usage across Voyager product development efforts to promote efficient and effective project execution
    • Ensure proper training of engineers and technical staff to grow and advance Products and Engineering group capabilities
    • Apply engineering principles and concepts and analytical and problem-solving skills to solve complex issues
    • Develop clear solutions, provide in-depth technical assessments, and proactively identify, address, and resolve issues and risks to drive risk-informed decision-making and product lifecycle sustainability
    • Evaluate and produce products of a technical nature using technical rigor, adequacy, completeness, and appropriate application of the specialty engineering disciplines as standard processes
    • Oversee technology readiness assessments; identifies risks and issues with proposed technologies and recommend path forward for product development efforts.
    • Perform engineering analysis on organizational technical processes; suggests process improvements that increase efficiency and/or effectiveness of operations as required
  • Execution Enablement & Integration
    • Support program and product teams in delivering on commitments, ensuring alignment with contractual, technical, and operational objectives.
    • Facilitate collaboration between Business Development, Program Execution, and Product Development to drive enterprise value
    • Enable effective product development and engineering activities through mentorship, structured problem-solving, and best-practice adoption
    • Performance & Risk Management
    • Provide insight into product execution, identifying technical risks early and supporting proactive solutions
    • Ensure execution supports short and long-term product lifecycle needs.
    • Establish data-driven visibility into program health, enabling informed decision-making at all levels
  • Process & Continuous Improvement
    • Work with stakeholders to develop and/or refine program and product execution frameworks, ensuring adaptability and continuous learning
    • Facilitate the adoption of best practices and lessons learned to enhance execution maturity of product development and engineering activities across the organization
    • Balance the need for structured execution with agility, ensuring processes support efficiency without unnecessary complexity
  • Resource Optimization & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and Finance to optimize resource allocation and execution efficiency
    • Act as a bridge between executive leadership, program teams, and product development, ensuring clear communication and alignment on priorities
    • Support decision-making with structured insights on execution risks, trade-offs, and strategic opportunities
  • Travel: Up to 25%

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or equivalent technical discipline
  • Ability to demonstrate engineering principles and concepts
  • Ability to coordinate with numerous stakeholders/customers from NASA and DoD agencies to commercial industry
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Effective interpersonal and team skills to engage at both the peer and management levels
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communications and presentation skills; able to clearly articulate ideas, recommendations, and options to the customer and senior leaders
  • Highly organized individual, capable of handling multiple competing priorities; able to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and quickly adjust in a dynamic environment

Preferences:

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills; able to sort through complex issues and develop clear solutions, provide in-depth technical assessments and identify, address, and resolve issues and risks
  • Expertise with requirements development and analysis and the development of systems engineering-related documents including requirements/specifications, interface control documents, and validation & verification plans
  • 20 years of experience working in the aerospace and defense industry
  • 10 years of experience in product design, development and/or manufacturing
  • 15 years of program or technical leadership experience
  • 15 years of experience in architecture/requirements definition/analysis, acquisitions, engineering/design, fielding/integration, and verification or analysis
  • Demonstrated product development process improvement experience
  • Relevant experience engaging government and commercial customers to advance projects and initiatives at varying degrees of complexity through engineering management
  • Proficiency in various enterprise tools, including enterprise resource planning, product data management, product lifecycle management, quality management, manufacturing resource planning, and engineering design and analysis
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools to plan, execute, and monitor projects effectively
  • Knowledge of Digital Engineering (DE) or Model .Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches and applications (i.e., SparxEA, Cameo, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Agile software development processes and applications (i.e., Jira/Confluence)

Salary Range: $250,000 To $275,000 Annually
