Job Context
In the absence of the Laboratory Manager, the Assistant Laboratory Manager has authority and responsibilities which shall ensure that the operation and routines of the laboratory are maintained in accordance with the Policy Statement and Management System and shall be responsible for the technical content of all laboratory reports and test reports issued by the laboratory. The Assistant Laboratory Manager shall assume the following responsibilities and authorities in addition to their normal duties.

Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining daily laboratory operation in accordance with the Quality Policy Statement
- Cooperation with the Quality Manager on the implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System.
- Assist the laboratory staff with the implementation of the Quality Management System
- Supervise and facilitate daily work of the laboratory group.
- Ensure that work policies and procedures are followed in order to achieve high standard of quality assurance and subsequent reliability of results. This includes unpacking and pour up of samples.
- Implement laboratory work schedules issued by the Lab Manager to ensure adequate staffing levels of the laboratory during operational hours.
- Facilitate and ensure equipment calibration and maintenance programs are in accordance with Administrative Procedure 307
- Familiarize with VPS environmental policy and VPS environmental aspect/impact register.
- Follow environmental guidelines to meet the VPS goals and targets.
- Follow recycle and waste policies.
- Suggest improvements to reduce the VPS environmental footprint.
Job Authorizations/Tasks
- Verify and authorize analytical results.
- Ensure that all raw data from analysis is verified before introducing results in STS.
- Authority to halt any process or activity which is suspected to produce erroneous results.
- Follow up on preliminary samples, BQS samples and samples to be sent out to contractual labs.
- Follow up on Work Order from Technical Department
- Ensure that QC samples and Charts are executed according to approved procedures.
- Implement and adhere to approved training programs.
- Ensure that up-to-date documents are being used and obsolete documents have been removed from use.
- See that all personnel involved in functions affecting data quality have the required training to perform affected activity.
- Ensure corrective actions for non-conformities are appropriate and have succeeded in achieving desired results.
- See that readings generated by recording instruments are reliable.
- Ensure the control of documents and overall monitoring of quality through a system of regular audits and reviews.
- Place orders for laboratory consumable items up to a written dollar amount in the absence of the Laboratory Manager.
- Establish a supplier master list including but not limited to supplier name and contact information.
- Evaluate suppliers on a yearly basis and prepare a summary.
Education
-BS Degree in Chemistry or minimum 3 years petroleum testing experience
Knowledge and Experience
-3 years in analytical laboratory with instrumentation background and one year experience with a quality management system
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
