Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Program Manager to create and manage GIS maps, attributes, and mapping reports.
- Utilize ArcGIS and other mapping tools to generate geospatial maps using data from Excel spreadsheets, databases, and other sources.
- Provide expert advice to VDOT field users and support their GIS mapping needs, including troubleshooting and optimizing GIS-related workflows.
- Design, build, and deliver web applications utilizing ArcGIS API for JavaScript or other JavaScript mapping APIs.
- Perform complex spatial analyses and develop multi-layered maps by integrating various GIS tools and programming environments.
- Maintain and develop linear referencing systems (LRS) to support spatial data management needs.
- Ensure high-quality communication by explaining complex technical GIS information to non-technical users.
- Manage GIS applications through ArcGIS Enterprise (server, portal, web adaptors, data stores) and ArcSDE.
- Independently develop GIS tools, scripts, and workflows to automate processes and optimize mapping solutions.
- Data extraction, analysis, and scripting tools experience, particularly with Oracle SQL and PostgreSQL.
- Previous experience with LRS/GIS and familiarity with ESRI Roads & Highways or similar systems.
- Proficiency in using reporting tools like Power BI for data analysis and visualization.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and self-starter with minimal supervision required.
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Cartography, Computer Science, or a related field with significant GIS experience.
- 4-8 years of experience in GIS and GIS application development.
- 5 years of experience in designing, building, and delivering web applications using GIS technologies.
- Excellent problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
- High competence in ESRI GIS software suite (Arc 10.x), with deep knowledge of ArcSDE and ArcGIS Enterprise (server, portal, web adaptors, data stores).
- Ability to work independently to create GIS applications, perform complex analysis, and manage spatial data workflows.
