General Summary
Dispense, fit, and adjust eyewear under the supervision of a licensed professional. Help patients find eyeglasses and contact lenses that are the best match for each individual while providing the highest levels of quality and care.
Essential Functions
Engage with patients to determine reason for visit; attract and retain patients by delivering exceptional service
Identify lifestyle needs and recommend eyewear products and services that meet individual vision care requirements
Measure patient for size of eyeglasses and coordinate frames with facial and eye measurements
Help patients with the selection of frames, lenses, and lens coatings to meet their needs, occupations, habits, and preferences
Fit and adapt lenses and frames for patient according to optical prescription
Prepare and submit a work order to the optical laboratory that includes instructions for the grinding and mounting of lenses in frames
Dispense eyewear and adjust frame and lens position to fit patient
Assist patients with inserting, removing, and caring for contact lenses
Instruct patients on correct eyeglass and contact lens care and maintenance
Clean and merchandise displays on a daily basis and ensure that patients have access to glasses by checking remaining inventory to restock empty displays
Job Specifications
Typically Has The Following Skills Or Abilities
One year of experience in related field; optical experience preferred
Working knowledge of MS Office package
Demonstrated ability to successfully perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and rapport-building skills
Ability to ask appropriate and relevant questions to identify patient needs
Proven problem-solving, negotiations, and decision-making skills
Ability to listen, process transactions and interact with patients simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Ability to provide enthusiastic and concise communication to meet and exceed patient expectations as well as foster positive relationships with team members
Working Conditions
The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
