VSS International, Inc. a leader in Pavement Preservation has an exciting career opportunity for a Safety Specialist at our West Sacramento Office.
The ideal candidate will be a natural at building relationships, have impeccable organizational skills, and have operational safety experience.
Responsibilities assist the Safety Manager with all environmental, health, safety, and security programs.
Essential Duties:
- Work remotely with minimal supervision from the Safety Manager and senior management
- Enforce company policies & procedures
- Issue corrective action for violations, post accidents, post injuries, post spill & discharges
- Investigate injuries, motor vehicle accidents, spills, discharges, theft, vandalism, property damages and develop report with root cause analysis
- Conduct Environmental & Safety audits on remote project site stockpiles and crews
- Conduct Environmental & Safety audits on plants, office buildings, and storage facilities
- Conduct environmental & safety training for supervisors & field employees
- Occasionally attend and represent company interests in court
- Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety and security policies and procedures.
- Coordinates the safety and security programs to promote and ensure a safe working environment.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of safety and security programs.
- Reviews current safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
- Submits recommendations for improvements and additions to the safety management program including emergency preparedness, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management.
- Stops operations and activities that could harm staff or equipment.
- Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
- Shares environmental safety information with appropriate levels in the organization.
- Prepares and implements departmental budget.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
- Experience in process safety with emphasis on petroleum pipelines, storage tanks, mills, and transportation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with federal, state, and local regulatory agency staff.
- Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to prepare reports, permits, and training records.
- Thorough understanding of all applicable government safety and security regulations.
- Must be able to stay composed in stressful situations and incidents
- At least five years of safety and/or construction supervisory experience required.
- Advanced training or certification in safety and security preferred.
- Preferred experience in fire service, regulatory agency or other emergency response duties

Salary : $70,000 - $100,000
