Systems Engineer (Mid)

Overview

VTG is seeking a Mid Systems Engineer in Washington, DC to provide Engineering Support Services to Engineers and Subject Matter Experts in support of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) systems and contract development and management under the Department of Navy. This position is hybrid 3-4 days in Washington, DC.

What will you do?

• Review and conduct design studies and evaluations associated with research, design, development, production and installation, test and evaluation, and operations of Positioning, Timing, and Navigation (PNT) systems.
• Review, comment, and provide technical advice to the Command and Control Systems program office Navigation directorate on technical documentation submissions from work performers, as needed.
• Provide the PNT program engineering and technical support and advisement regarding problem definition, analysis, requirement development and implementation for complex systems in the engineering discipline required to meet technical requirements.
• Provide assessments and recommendations on system development, improvements, optimization, or support efforts.
• Perform risk assessments and analysis, identify risks and develop mitigation plans for identified cost, schedule, and technical issues.
• Support the identification, tracking, and resolution of systems engineering issues related to technical interfaces, technology insertion/design improvements, and other program initiatives.
• Prepare technical presentations, briefings, and papers to address program management issues in such venues as technical design reviews, technical review boards, and others.
• Collaborate, coordinate, and as directed act as the PNT systems liaison, with key stakeholders, to include user and interfacing system program offices, research labs, field activities, industry partners and OPNAV Sponsors.
• Provide recommendations and as directed assist in the development of acquisition contracting strategies, evaluation, and execution.
• Identify technical issues that need resolution in particular Navigation directorate areas of responsibility. Work with applicable Government team leads to facilitate resolution of technical issues. Facilitate timely decisions and review and adjudication of all design products and written correspondence.
• Support transition of research and developmental efforts into production, and management of technical activities.
• Provides recommendations for procedures or modifications to procedures to solve complex problems considering defense system capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results.
• Support the preparation of detailed specifications from which research programs will be written.
• Conduct assessments and make recommendations for program design, testing, and documentation utilizing full knowledge of all phases of research application, analysis, and programming and research analysis techniques.
• Support all configuration management planning. Describe provisions for configuration identification, change control, configuration status accounting, and configuration audits.
• Provide technical input to support the drafting and review of contract documentation, recommendations for technical scope, statements of work, contract modifications, and contractor assessments.
  
  

Do you have what it takes?

Required Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in any related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 7 years of professional experience in engineering.
• Experience in Navy acquisition and contracts.
• Experience in Navy and Systems Engineering, ship control systems, and combat systems.
• Must have active DoD Secret level clearance.
  
  

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge in Navy PNT systems.
• Experience with warfare systems in either PEO IWS or SEA05H.
• Experience with DoD 5000, non-traditional, and expedited acquisition contracting processes
• Experience with the Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) process
• Strong customer communication and project management skills.
• Ability to work independently with some guidance.
  
  

Pay Range: VTG’s estimated starting pay range is $80,000 - $115,000, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
