Job Summary :
We are seeking a highly skilled Protection & Control (P&C) Field Services Engineer / Technician to support substation projects, maintenance, and protection schemes. The ideal candidate will have experience in electric power utility transmission construction, maintenance, or operations and possess strong technical knowledge of protection and control (P&C) applications, fault analysis, and three-phase power systems .
Key Responsibilities :
Perform installation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of P&C systems in substations.
Conduct protective relay testing and commissioning for electrical power systems.
Interpret AC / DC protection & control schemes , wiring diagrams, and fault analysis reports.
Utilize test equipment to assess relay coordination and system performance.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices .
Collaborate with engineering, construction, and project management teams to support substation design, major equipment testing, and project execution .
Assist in troubleshooting power system faults , analyzing data, and providing recommendations for system improvements.
Maintain accurate documentation of test results, system modifications, and project progress .
Provide technical guidance and training to field personnel when required.
Job Requirements :
Education Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Power Systems, or related field) OR
BS in Engineering Technology OR
2-year technical degree in Electrical Maintenance OR
Equivalent applicable experience , such as : Substation Electrician Protection & Control Technician Wireman Industrial or Utility Electrician
Experience :
Preferred : P&C Field Services experience.
Required : Experience in electric power utility transmission construction, maintenance, or operations .
Related experience in substation applications, protection & control design, construction, major equipment, and project management .
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Strong understanding of three-phase power systems and AC / DC protection & control schemes .
Experience with fault analysis and relay coordination in high-voltage systems.
Familiarity with test equipment , including relay test sets, digital fault recorders, oscilloscopes, and multimeters.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation .
Working knowledge of industry standards (NERC, IEEE, IEC, NFPA 70E, .
Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills .
Strong communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate across engineering, field operations, and project management teams.
Preferred Certifications (a plus) :
NETA, NICET, or equivalent testing certifications.
Professional Engineer (PE) license (if applicable).
OSHA, NFPA 70E, or electrical safety certifications.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements :
Ability to work in substations and outdoor environments , often in varying weather conditions.
Willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks related to equipment installation and maintenance .
