What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Support Focus on Your Future Mentor- Student Employment (Workstudy Eligibility Not Required) position at VTSU?
Assist Academic Support staff with Focus on Your Future, a series of four career preparation workshops by planning, implementing, and promoting the events. Mentors should be detail-oriented and have strong interpersonal and writing skills. They should be capable of working independently and with others. Sophomore standing or higher preferred. Focus on Your Future Mentors will:
- Collaborate with Academic Support staff, other VTSU staff, and community partners to plan and implement workshops on studying abroad, internships, graduate school, and interview skills.
- Market the events to students, particularly TRIO students, through social media posts, texts, fliers, face-to-face meetings, and faculty and staff.
- Maintain accurate records of prizes, workshop attendance, and participant evaluations.
- Facilitate panel discussions, introduce speakers, and present information during workshops.
- Solicit door prizes for events.
- Complete other tasks as needed to ensure events’ success.
- Attend all four workshops as well as four meetings/trainings to prepare for these workshops. Mentors will have to work outside of the meetings and workshops. Focus on Your Future Mentors must be available on October 29th, November 5th, November 12th, and November 14th from 12-1:45pm. Team meeting times will be determined when mentors are hired.
