What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Faculty-String Orchestra and Applied Violin/Viola instructor position at VTSU?
Vermont State University, Castleton campus is seeking an exemplary violinist or violist to lead our String Orchestra/Quartet and teach applied violin and viola lessons to music majors and non majors. The successful appointee will rehearse the String Orchestra/Quartet once a week in preparation for an end of semester concert, and work once a week with individual violin/viola students. This position is for Spring 2025 with the possibility of renewal.
Key responsibilities:
String Orchestra Director: Choose appropriate repertoire, lead rehearsals and prepare students for an end of semester concert and possible run out concerts.
Applied Violin: Teach individual applied violin lessons to music majors and non music majors adhering to Music Program guidelines and expectations.
Applied Viola: Teach individual applied viola lessons to music majors and non music majors adhering to Music Program guidelines and expectations.
Job qualifications:
Experience playing and teaching violin and viola, working with string ensembles, and professional performing.
Minimum of 5 years experience teaching violin and viola to students of varied ages and ability.
Minimum of 5 years professional violin and viola playing experience.
Knowledge of repertoire appropriate for string ensemble and quartet.
Experience directing/leading string ensemble and quartets.
