What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Researcher- Student Employment Opportunity (Workstudy Eligibility Not Required) position at VTSU?
Participate as a student researcher in a federally funded contract to study microbes collected from the Arctic. The primary objective of this project is to advance the boundary of characterizing various
polar terrains from the microscale and into the nanoscale. By reaching nanoscale resolution, we can achieve the critical application of locating and imaging microbes in situ using X-ray computed
tomography. Combined with analyzing critical features of the terrain, we will be able to significantly
improve our understanding of microbially-mediated processes in cold regions. This work involves Arctic fieldwork to Alaska, Greenland, and/or Canada, as well as lab work at the Randolph Campus. Both independent work and team work is expected, as well as participation in regular team meetings and trainings. Team work, communication skills, and technical training is provided.
1 year of college in an applicable degree program, or 1 year of experience in similar research work.
